@nateberkopec I'm mainly on bluesky these days. Many uk journalists and academics have migrated from X due to its owner. Lots of news and politics, less sport and tech content than I'd like. Found mastodon a little too irritating when I tried, but will give it another go.

Observations of my Mastodon feed: 1. Still pretty active 2. Way more chill, less algorithm juice and more like pre-For You twitter 3. They fixed notifications, they're now grouped properly All in all, a nice complement to the firehose that is X.

I just got 23rd place in a bike race and I couldn't be happier. I've done ~4 of these amateur races this year where I've DNFd, this is the first one I finished. I even led out the sprint at the end! Lots of hard work finally paid off.

@pixeltrix @dhh Yup. He got convicted for being part of a mob that broke away from the larger protest, threw flares and bottles at police, and tried to shove and force their way past police lines. The chanting and shoving ties him to the mob, as opposed to being an innocent bystander.

@dhh He pled guilty to violent disorder, a law that's been around since 1986. This isn't some free speech issue - he's a thug and convicted drug smuggler and was on license from prison at the time so has been recalled. Choose better examples. legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1986/64/…

Now, now. The list of charges also included "causing religiously aggravated distress" and allegedly pushing someone. 20 months in jail for that diabolical cocktail of offenses 🤯

@maccaw It would be possible in theory, but not how I believe it will play out.

@maccaw Not arguing that technology won't get cheaper, nor that capabilities won't be far more advanced. Just in how this extra wealth will be distributed. IMO the average middle class American will be lucky to see a tiny fraction of it, nothing like the lifestyle you believe.

Over the next decade AI will bring much of today's HNW (high net worth) lifestyle to the average middle class American. - Private chef - Private chauffeur - Laundry pressed and folded - Daily house cleaning - Personal assistant - Travel coordinated - Private childcare

@maccaw An alluring idea, but even if it were possible to create such an abundance of advanced machines, I can't see it working out that way. Far more likely IMO that those with money and power will benefit massively, and those without get very little.
