@GrowthOverYield @ColesTrades Stop stating something as fact. Traditional or roth can be right for different incomes and people. In this instance the OP is concerned about “locking up” his money. In a ROTH all contributions can be taken out tax and penalty free. That isn’t the case for traditional.

@ColesTrades Traditional is way better. I contributed $25,000 a year, then I save $10,000+ on taxes every year. I invest that $10,000 in my brokerage account

@chicfryrice It’s definitely robbery but the government is basically the mafia with 100x the power. I would love to see an option if you hit a certain level of net worth you get to stop paying into the system and you just get whatever you had paid in up to that point.

12% goes to SS. If you start working at 25 and make $40k your entire career and invested that 12% you’d have $1.2 million to $1.9 million at retirement. Instead the person making $40k gets $1800 a month for 20 years in retirement which comes to $430k. Why are people willingly throwing away a million dollars? That’s your money!

@NUCLRGOLF If he can afford it (reasonable club given amenities) I would say pull the trigger. Tough to say without knowing their net worth, expenses etc. Wife and I play so joining a club where we can play solo and fast has been great. 7500 to join 400 dues, about 150k-175k income.
