@tylerblack32 I don’t think that was her motivation initially. She made better specific but light weight scientific points earlier in her career. But when her focus went from specific medications to almost all psychiatric medications it was more ideology (smarter than Read) than science.

The irony is that some people see her as unbiased because of her views on medication, when in fact allegiance bias is an extremely powerful bias. As is the allure of fame, followers, and smug rightness.

@ProfRobHoward @joannamoncrieff @tylerblack32 My impression is that JM made her mind up from very early days and that her subsequent career has been built on a search for evidence to support these ever widening assumptions. That’s not science.

@joannamoncrieff I don’t think @tylerblack32 is looking to have a debate with you. More that you respond to his evidenced charge that you made your mind up early, with a kind of irreversibility, and then been selective about the research literature that you rely upon to support your views. (1/n).

I am not going to respond to Tyler Black who is not interested in genuine debate. His politeness is a matter of opinion. Here is my response to one of Aftab's critiques of my work joannamoncrieff.wordpress.com/2026/05/17/try… and here is another joannamoncrieff.wordpress.com/2025/02/03/wis…
Robert Howard@ProfRobHoward

If you set yourself up as a critical psychiatrist, you can’t really complain if other psychiatrists criticise your ideas and assertions - particularly when they do it politely and with evidence. Thank you @tylerblack32. We all look forward to a response to your specific points.

Is interesting to see how the private school lobby confuses statistics like the fall in the number of children attending private schools with the number of extra children attending state schools as a result. This doesn't take into account overseas students or the fall in school rolls generally.

Haotong Li spent all night on the toilet 🧻 "I went to the toilet last night a lot of times and this morning when I got to the golf course and was still feeling really bad and I was living in the toilet." "I didn't hit many balls on the driving range, I was feeling really bad, low energy, fuzzing, like I wanted to throw up something and I just planned to play a few holes and see how I go. "If i was really sick I probably decide not too. So I'm glad I survived today. Especially after the four birdies some how i felt quite nice" Haotong Li powered through and signed off a second round of 69 and is heading into the weekend at T5. #TheMasters

@tomfahy @mancunianmedic @ProfRobHoward @AlanCarson15 Not if they’re doing the painfully laborious MCA training I’ve just finally got to the end of though; it makes you watch every video and click on every picture in each of the 9 modules in order to get your certificate. Having the knowledge isn’t enough - pain is also compulsory

Please no more mandatory training - the list is becoming endless. I recognise the importance of eating disorders just as i recognise blood transfusion, fire safety, infants at risk if harm etc etc the solution to gsps in services is no yet more mandatory training
Dump the Scales@DumpTheScales

We were delighted to work with MP Richard Quigley on this Bill to provide mandatory eating disorders training to frontline public sector workers including teachers and healthcare stuff. The move could save lives. dumpthescales.org/post/eating-di… (tw*-numbers)

@pmosligo @rtenews Nobody is trashing anybody - but what’s the point of journalism if there is no research done. Good luck to the unfortunate Mr Culleton but there was always going to be more to this story. If you don’t want to know the details that’s your prerogative.

Really hating the effects of the latest iOS update on my iPhone. So many things are confusing and difficult to navigate. Feels like some kind of experimental induction of Alzheimer’s disease!
