After 34 incredible years, our family is handing over the keys to The Emerald Hotel. What Faye, Gerry, Andy & Jane built was never just a pub. It was a true country pub in the city. A place of friendship. A place of old school hospitality. With love & thanks The Lewis Family 💚

@Matt__Welsh_ Cran & Pak absolutely horrible to access on Thursday & Friday nights. At least an hour extra trip for western & northern horses. That plays a big part in field sizes Two nights in a row for same pool of horses, fields will always eventually drop off.

Anthony Kim will play with Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm tomorrow in the final group at LIV Golf Adelaide. They spoke about AK’s story: Bryson: “What an incredible story, first off. Going from the lowest of lows, almost moving away from this earth and then coming back and really taking accountability and raising his little girl and being a family man and being 1 percent better every day. It's an inspiring story that I think honestly should have a lot more media attention than it does. It deserves that. “It shows some of the opportunities that LIV Golf can provide and give hope to people. It's another opportunity to play. I think that's what's so brilliant about it is you've got a guy like that that's struggled pretty much his entire career, and this is really when he has become more of himself than any other time, more of a family man, a father, a great person that cares deeply about playing good golf now. That's all he cares about, and he loves it. I think that's really inspiring for anybody at any age, that you can pick it up and be a better person. “My hats off to him for doing everything he's doing, working as hard as he has to get back. He's an incredible talent, obviously; we know that. He's starting to show it, and for him to be in the final group will be fun. I actually haven't played with him yet, so it'll be fun to see how he golfs his ball.” Jon: “I was able to enjoy a car ride back to the hotel from the golf course in Riyadh, which somehow there's traffic at midnight there, so it was quite a bit over an hour, and he shared quite a bit of his story with me. What he's doing is nothing short of remarkable. “I really hope he can find the right person to tell his story, however form, movie, documentary series, book, whatever it is, because what he's doing is so impressive. Where he was at in life to where he's at now -- I've been able to play with him. I played in Singapore in his first season with him early on. Both of us played with him here last year in the first round, and I played with him yesterday, and the progression, the jump from those two times to yesterday, it's impressive. “The round he played yesterday on not the easiest golf course was incredible. Didn't really miss a shot. Shot 5-under and should have been lower because he did not make many putts. It was a flawless round of golf. It's impressive. It's impressive. “To see him now being part of a team after earning his spot back in the league, making a 15-footer on the second day to get into the final qualifying day, he's been proving it. “After everything he's gone through, if there's somebody that's not going to be scared to be out here and have to make the putts, it's somebody him like. I wouldn't be surprised if at this point this season he's somebody who's hoisting the trophy at the end of the week.” Hopefully AK can put on a show tomorrow and contend with them 👊

Anthony Kim shoots a third round 68, with 4 birdies and an eagle, to back up his opening pair of 67s and sit T3 at LIV Golf Adelaide. AK is genuinely playing awesome golf right now and his comeback is such a compelling story 👊 @AnthonyKim_Golf @livgolf_league

Now that the Spring racing carnival is over I just want say how thrilled I am that Stephen and Vanessa’s Powers trip to Melbourne has been such an incredible success. I’m personally thrilled that they have been embraced and loved by so many people in the racing game. They are an inspiration. Hats off to Aaron Morrison and all the crew at Racing Victoria for facilitating and getting them here for the best horse racing carnival in the world. It is the best game in the world. It doesn’t matter if you’re a millionaire, Sheik or a battler we are all equal on the racecourse. Long Live the best game in the world.

Isn't it interesting how we form our belief systems/moral compasses, and allow them to be shaped by others. The recent narrative from the once-a-year, extremist anti-racing minority groups was that 174 registered racehorses lost their lives in Australia this year, from accidents while in work or racing. But how should we feel about this? Surely we're not all savages? We're good people, right? I mean, we're talking about animals that are bred for the purpose of industry. However you feel about it, take that feeling and consider - Last year, these are the numbers of livestock slaughtered to provide Australians meat in their diets. Cattle: ~7–8 million + ~2.2 million live milking herd Sheep and lambs: ~35–40 million Pigs: ~5.5–6 million Chickens: ~700–770 million Worldwide, the number was ~85 billion land animals slaughtered. 10 times the world's population of humans. To take such an aggressive stance against the morality of horse racing, you'd most certainly want to be a hardcore Vegan. You couldn't eat eggs or drink milk, heck you can't even have a bag of mixed lollies because of gelatin. You couldn't wear woollen socks/jumpers or sit in a car with leather seats, because the animal that provided your comfort was bred and lived/died for the express purpose of providing you that comfort. You have to grow all your own vegetable diet because you can't trust that the institutions you might buy from haven't exploited animals for the purposes of providing you that diet. And that's before considering the exploitation of human life to provide your clothing and pretty much every material inside your house, including your house. Where do you go after that? How could you possibly function in society? NupToTheCup is catchy. But it's a fallacy unless you're all in.
Madelaine Burke@Madelaine_Burke

3AW's Tom Elliott responds to #NupToTheCup protestors at Flemington: "Every day we kills thousands of cattle and sheep and pigs. If you're going to protest against animals dying... surely you'd go and stand in front of an abattoir every day of the week" It’s always interesting to see people suddenly speaking out against the cruelty of horse racing on Melbourne Cup Day. What I struggle with, though, is that the same compassion often doesn’t extend beyond the Melbourne Cup. The same people who call veganism “extreme” are suddenly vocal about animal suffering when it’s convenient or trending...or maybe just because horses are better looking than pigs and cows? If you care about animals being exploited for entertainment, it’s worth asking where else that same logic might apply, because cruelty isn’t just a once-a-year issue.

@DavidPocock Do you realise that less than 10% of problem gamblers are from horse racing wagering? Only 12% are from sports betting - pokies on the other hand are responsible for 63% and casinos the remainder. The mums and dads on Cup Day are not your issue!
