To those saying it will take years to get new oil & gas out the North Sea… It won’t. 👉 Jackdaw - can be producing gas in 3 months. 👉 Rosebank - can be producing oil in the autumn. Miliband just needs to approve them. Everyday he waits, the further away this supply gets.

Politics isn’t working. Governments aren’t able to fix things. Published tomorrow, Conservative Revival sets out why. 7 deadly political sins, and what must change. I. Political Courage - Downplaying hard truths to win elections leaves governments without the mandate to deliver real change. II. Short-termism - Treating symptoms instead of causes creates temporary relief but entrenches long-term decline. III. Institutional Sclerosis - Bureaucratic inertia prevents ministers from implementing reform. IV. Stakeholderism - Policy driven by pressure groups weakens focus on the national interest. V. Hyperlocalism - MPs acting as local campaigners over legislators undermines national delivery. VI. Demographic Targeting - Excessively segmenting policy for electoral blocs erodes good government. VII. Polling over Policy - Polling should inform policy and vision, but not be the basis of it.

Ed Davey is an embarrassment. The Liberal Democrats are not a serious party.

It remains one of my strongest views that 72 very middle class constituencies effectively opting out of the serious choices facing our country by electing Liberal Democrats is the worst form of non-seriousness.

It's a good rule of thumb that anyone suggesting a "citizen's assembly" or "people's assembly" to decide anything "deliberatively" wants it to be controlled by and/or composed of themselves and people who agree with them, in order to produce a conclusion that they already want.

I call this the Paradox of Plenty: those who have never known a day without electricity are often the loudest champions of energy scarcity: powered up, but preaching poverty.

This is somewhat crude, but it does bring home the massive extent to which Labour’s decision to abandon welfare reform is wrecking the public finances. But there is a challenge here for all parties too. Without reform of pensions, the triple lock is also fuelling the crisis.
The Telegraph@Telegraph

Sir Keir Starmer could pay for 15 new warships or quadruple the size of the British Army by halting this year’s £18bn rise in welfare spending, analysis has shown. Read more here: telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/03/0…

Imagine two families, each with three children. One set of parents work. The others don’t. If Labour lifts the two child benefit cap, the working parents will need to earn £71,000 to match the family on benefits. We shouldn't tax the hardworking to pay for the non-working.

Feels like the Conservatives are trying to win voters in their 20s, 30s and 40s again. Hugely positive direction.

The Labour line defending student loans is going down so incredibly badly. Ministers are effectively saying 'sacrifice saving for a house so we can keep the triple lock'. Worst deal ever. The position isn't sustainable and the backlash from millions of grads is growing

No Mr Farage you cant just turn up at sensitive military bases either in the UK or abroad. No MP can - no matter what Party you represent. We don’t do open days around the trident warhead or open house for the SAS either. @bbc @thetimes @Telegraph

Student loan repayments have become a scam. You work hard but you get "rewarded" with high interest rates. How is that fair? @Conservatives will reduce interest rates for hundreds of thousands of graduates. That's just Step 1 in our New Deal for Young people.
