@MiddleearthMixr Yeah I think the concept of the Bombadil chapters can be cool, it just feels supremely in the wrong hands, I don’t really trust it. The Rosie Gamgee portion of the description also concerns me. It feels primed for agenda pushing. But we shall see

Apparently it’s going to be about the Tom Bombadil chapters left out of the Peter Jackson films: My prediction is Sam’s daughter stumbles upon some section of the Red Book that describes the experience and they go back in time. Bookmark this. Admittedly, this concept is interesting to me, and Stephen Colbert’s passion for LOTR and his personal Catholic faith (although it doesn’t seem to penetrate his public beliefs at all) seems to be the only things he doesn’t have brain worms about so maybe he could tell a faithful adaptation. My outlook though is grim because nothing that comes out of Hollywood for the most part has the ability to properly capture Light and Truth unless it’s by accident.

NEW 'LORD OF THE RINGS' MOVIE Stephen Colbert is co-writing "The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past" (working title), which will go into production after "The Hunt for Gollum." The synopsis: "Fourteen years after the passing of Frodo - Sam, Merry, and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter, Elanor, has discovered a long-buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began." Colbert is co-writing the script with his son, Peter McGee, and franchise veteran Philippa Boyens. variety.com/2026/film/news…

This is so legitimately disrespectful to Tolkien and his legacy. I’m irate. Firstly Colbert is a poser, he may know the names and the years but he fundamentally misunderstands the message and the core of the story as it doesn’t align with his worldview, thus the very soul of this project will be tainted with themes antithetical to Tolkien’s work. Secondly, these are ideas Tolkien never would have even wanted. You can argue with The Hunt for Gollum that it’s at least just telling stuff already in the novel. But a whole new secondary adventure, when his appendices and his manuscripts in HoME already explain the lives these characters lived, and peaceful ones at that? Absolutely not This is a blatant disregard for lore, sure, but more importantly this is a disregard of Tolkien entirely. Disgusting.

It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till. What weather they shall have is not ours to rule.

Although Gollum drove me nuts throughout the LOTR, his character represents something beautiful. He's the picture of what sin does when you hold onto it for a lifetime, when you refuse to let go of the thing that's destroying you. You don't die dramatically. You just slowly become unrecognizable. And yet, Tolkien's mercy shows here. Bilbo could've killed Gollum. Frodo could've killed Gollum. They both chose mercy instead. And that mercy - the one that made no strategic sense, that looked like weakness - is the exact thing that saved the world. The Ring wasn't destroyed by strength. It was destroyed by mercy.

I've said before that ship captains during the age of discovery were some of the most impressive human beings to ever live. We have trouble appreciating just how unimaginably great these men were. They had to play the role of navigator, cartographer, astronomer, logistics manager, military commander, judge, police captain, diplomat, CEO, recruiter, accountant and governor, all at the same time, and all under extreme duress, out in the middle of the ocean, cut off from the rest of the world where the penalty for one wrong decision was the death of everyone on board. These are some of the most brilliant and gifted human beings the world has ever known. Nobody on Earth today can come close to matching them. They had a level of both skill and physical courage that just doesn't exist on the planet today.

People on job sites like this, especially welders, not only face dangers in the job, but have higher risks of cancers and other debilitating chronic illnesses as much as 20-30%. All of that for $25 dollars an hour? How is that worth it? You can make that much as a manager at a McDonald’s in 5 years, Starbucks even less so. You can make that much as a med tech with 18 months of schooling. All with much less short term and long term danger. Companies used to understand incentive. Now they just import third world scum to work for what good Americans won’t
