There’s a pattern I think many people missed.
Last month, EPRA increased fuel prices. Almost immediately, there was tension. People were angry.
Police were on alert.
There were talks of protests.
Immediately, taxes were reduced, but even then, the protests were still expected to go on.
The President was also out of the country around that period.
Then something important happened:
The protests lost momentum.
Now pause there.
Because governments do not only make decisions.
They also study reactions.
If leaders expect resistance and resistance never fully materializes, they learn something.
They learn: “So people will complain online, then move on.”
Now, a month later, another fuel increase has landed, and an even higher one.
It's extremely likely the government now believes people will be angry for a few days, then adapt.
That is why Monday matters.
This is why everyone needs to join Monday's protests.
Because if there is no pressure, the government becomes comfortable.
And when leaders become comfortable, the pushing rarely stops at one thing.

KTN writes an open letter to President William Ruto questioning the Kenya Kwanza administration’s silence over the sharp rise in fuel prices, which have hit historic highs. The letter also revisits the President’s promises on the G-to-G fuel model and cost of living relief, while seeking answers about the recent resignation of three senior energy officials.

Instead of using the government jet, “Harambee One,” Ruto has decided to hire a luxurious Boeing jet, T7-BBJ2, for his three-day trip to Azerbaijan. The jet costs 18,600 USD per hour (about KSh 2.4 million).
The logistics for the plane’s crew cost up to 12,000 USD (KSh 1.5 million).
Parking a Boeing-sized aircraft at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Azerbaijan for three nights adds roughly 10,000 USD (KSh 1.29 million).
Handling fees, diplomatic clearance processing, and airspace overflight permits across Africa and the Middle East add another 25,000 USD (KSh 3.2 million).
Don’t forget that State House spends KSh 42 million daily on hospitality and state receptions.
In the next three days, Ruto will spend more than KSh 300 million of your taxes.
Just imagine struggling so hard to pay taxes, only for them to be misappropriated through reckless public spending.

Comoros🇰🇲 government now suspends new fuel prices introduced in response to the Iran war, backing down after the hikes, diesel prices by 46% and gasoline prices by 35%, prompted demonstrations and deadly clashes across the East African archipelago.
"The government and President Azali (Assoumani) heard the cries of the Comorian people. There was no other solution than to listen to them. The goal is to preserve peace," Energy Minister Aboubacar Saïd Anli announces.
President Azali suspended the decrees related to the fuel price hike, which were introduced on May 9, to allow for talks on the matter.

One statement from Ruto yesterday should disturb every Kenyan worker.
He admitted he pressured Atwoli to withdraw the case against increased NSSF deductions.
Atwoli withdrew it.
Think about that.
A case affecting millions of workers was dropped after pressure from the top.
You may also remember that Dr. Obwaka was reportedly pressured by the statehouse to withdraw a case involving Nairobi Hospital. He refused, arrests followed, and today.....
Then remember Labour Day.
Instead of pressure on behalf of workers, we watched praise being directed at Ruto by Atwoli.
If COTU can bend, who is left standing for ordinary Kenyans?
Kenyan workers deserve a stronger, independent COTU leadership. Atwoli must go.
And Kenyans have every right to demand change. Ruto must go.

Kenyans are hurting.
The economy is not working for us.
It will be a tragedy to allow Ruto to come back.
Let’s work together on #Ukombozi wa nchi yetu.
