My hot take: The problem with the name "Extreme Programming" wasn't with calling it "extreme" but rather by calling it "programming" it made all non-coders feel like it had nothing to do with them. "I'm a manager; that's a programmer thing."

@tooky That's stupid. Pair programming is not about driving. It's about navigating. The person at the keyboard is not making any decisions, just implementing what the navigator is telling them. Same as a driver in the car and the navigator who is reading the map.

Pair programming doesn't work unless it's on rotation. Every x minutes or so, the person at the keyboard stands up and the person who was sitting beside the keyboard takes over. And on and on it goes. They keep swapping places. Only that way can the pair programming work.

@davefarley77 @notengoid @Grady_Booch Does evolution solve problems? That feels a bit too targeted. Successful mutants may be interesting and unexpected, but I’m not sure they are solutions.

@notengoid @Grady_Booch and how is that different to what human minds do? I am not saying that this is a simple step to take, but when your generational cycle is measured in seconds or even days, evolution has a knack of finding interesting and unexpected routes to a solution.

Kind of, but what we are doing is teaching computers to learn, through a process of guided evolution, we are now making steps to turn that into a process of self-guided evolution from the perspective of the machines, and at some point the minds will make themselves!

@joe_ashwell Have you tried it recently? Nightmare - so much trash, so hard to find an actual answer I’m sure it was always like that but it feels worse now because we have alternatives

@KiwiDenny I like this and suggest burning later... that stuff is probably less important than the new things you'll discover... and if they aren't you'll rediscover them again pretty quickly :)

How do you prioritise and do the to-do planning? I use the Now/Next/Later-framework for my personal planning! Now - what I'm working on now Next - If "now" is done, l get something from Next Later - Tasks, were there is no timeline and topic is still vague

@jasongorman AND your colorscheme makes the comments shout, unlike many I see that knock them back so you barely notice them.

@jasongorman I read that as saying the payer is trying to transfer 250.0 to the payee. I would expect the payer's balance to be debited* by 250.0, therefore the balance would be 750.0. *Assumption: this is modelled from a banking consumer perspective and debit here means take money out.

@jasongorman @Cennydavidsson would it be fair to say that SmallTalk was probably the best example of working like that and that community was a huge contributor to the discovery/advent/popularisation of TDD?

@wagslane Depends on the work. I don’t think I do it often enough but in my experience - for deep, solo tasks - the buzz around and change of context helps me focus.

@jasongorman It’s interesting, the regulation is often related to the sector: banking, pharma, etc. What is the tech industry? What are the regulations that should apply across the sectors? Are tech businesses not subject to the regulations already present in their sector?
