Outside the pub right now, waiting for my grocery delivery to be delivered and the camera car is here. He drives up and down the road, instantly and automatically fining anyone without a permit. While changes between books & their movies are inevitable, I love FIRST BLOOD, directed by Ted Kotcheff and based on my debut novel. It seems more realistic w/each year because its action scenes don’t use computer effects. The realism of the stunts is amazing.

I get it, circular time and all that—but I still think a couple of blinking lights or pulses would’ve saved them a lot of drama 😅

Rewatching Arrival and it still bugs me: why didn’t they start with binary? You’re trying to communicate with obviously intelligent beings—wouldn’t on/off, 1s and 0s be the most basic, universal way in?

Instead, they jump straight into written symbols, which assumes a ton about the alien perception of time, meaning, and form. Binary could’ve been the bridge.
