@turbopisser what was the original even for? just to be a bigger clunkier axe? did it have a practical purpose or was it just a symbolic thing?

One of the most scathing depictions of modern fascism I've ever seen. A genuine work of art. The legacy of an aesthetics-obsessed, might makes right sociopolitical philosophy now represented through a poorly-composed, ramshackle faggot.

@SaddamTransfem btw this is the original fasces, a symbol of unity amongst the roman citizens. one stick alone breaks easily, but together we stand strong, an incredible symbol of nationalism. the 'fascio' in the image above is a crude imitation of this unity, a perfect symbol for fascism

it's not that we won't elect black people, we've just managed to maintain a system for the last 150 years that guarantees it's almost impossible

israel had a pro rape january 6 style riot to break out the rapist concentration camp guards from prison, it succeeded! they made one of the top rapists into a tv star, and then the prosecution dropped all charges & satanyahu personally apologized. so no i’m not shocked abt kristoffs reporting. it’s sad that they wouldn’t post it outside of editorial.

@ericquig @NBCNews But the article is talking about people like Tiffany Hudson who are neither of those things and they're the ones also getting kicked off these programs with no guarantee they'll be reapproved. You're making the lives of millions of people so much more difficult

@totallynotabird @NBCNews Yes I totally understand how it works. I'm not so sure you do. Many people who CAN work choose not to work to earn MORE benefit While working people earn benefits, they earn less than the grifters and that is not fair to the working people. This had nothing to do with my comment

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: nytimes.com/2026/05/11/opi…

EVERYONE who was earning them had to sign back up. So please don't try to frame it as I am the one who doesn't understand. On the old system all the grifters and lazy people existed. They need everyone to sign up again to prove you can't work. But I know it sounds more dramatic to say people are starving.

@ericquig @NBCNews If you had bothered to read the article you would have seen that she had already been receiving benefits and then lost them. If it takes months to get back on benefits why are conservatives pushing so hard to kick as many people off at once as possible? It's set up to cause pain

I'm fine with this. If they are legitimately in need, it will end with them getting the aid they need. When I had to get SSI it took many months and a ton of paperwork to get approved. Why shouldn't this be any different? Maybe if it weren't so easy to sign up, the lazy people might just give up and look for work.

@Deadbeat303 @hermit_hwarang Then I'm not sure why you felt the need to bring up India if you're keenly aware at how bad out government is at environmental stewardship when the federal budget is being steered toward "austerity measures except for the defense industry"

@totallynotabird @hermit_hwarang Yes I know that, I am environmental scientist. I deal directly with acid mine drainage, oil and gas, storm water etc. I never said that was ok. But to claim we’re so bad, is just wrong.

It's not just that these cuts are ending organic recycling projects. Without these projects, farms and agri orgs will be faced with the decision to come up short or cut corners and use traditional fertilizers that will lead to runoff into local watersheds

Cuts to the USDA and NRCS contracts means that there is significantly less capability for the US to mitigate increased fertilizer prices because there's less staff and funding to manage federal-level recycling and composting projects.

Thailand is one of the first ag countries to enter a planting season since the Iran war. We went to document the impact of supply shocks to fuel/fertilizer — It was worse than I anticipated. Farmers are leaving huge tracts of land barren bc they can’t afford to plant.

@rebtanhs Presumably the farmers still have seeds to plant. They may just need to seek alternative home-grown fertiliser (probably less productive but cheaper and more organic). Might be an interesting experiment to see what home grown fertiliser emerges the most effective.

Kevin O’Leary claims people opposing his massive Utah data center are being “bussed in.” But we talked to protesters. They’re locals, and they’re pissed at this millionaire swooping in. "I don't understand why Utah is letting a Canada company come in and take advantage of us.”
