@gdlinux @alex_prompter Absolutely awful handwriting recognition in my experience. CHAT can’t read handwriting at all; you must upload as a PDF then covert to a Google doc then go through to sort out the gaps/errors manually. For AI to create visual notes, your original notes must be typed.

@UltraLinx I love this! I’m an English Teacher so I effectively read for a living, but I can see this method being very helpful for students, especially for revision. Personally, I could read every word at 900 wpm so I would be keen to see how fast I could go!

@PieCorbett I suppose that’s what I’m thinking. Pontification rather than actual research & then cherry-picked references. Nothing that I can see from linguistics & stylistics, for instance.

Can anyone point me to any actual 'research' done by E.D. Hirsch on reading, cultural literacy, core knowledge etc? He's written many articles & books, quoted others' research but I can't find any of his own, incl. the initial research said to have propelled him to comment.

@GCSE_Macbeth For me, this could suggest Dickens is pointing out the flaws of the system, with Scrooge’s eventual charity donation and supporting Tiny Tim’s healthcare as one individual’s way of alleviating the symptoms of capitalist inequality, which otherwise would not be fixed.

Dickens' problem with Scrooge isn't that he's a money lender or even that he's wealthy. It's that he's mean and selfish. There's no searching or meaningful critique of capitalism in ACC.
