@LandonTengwall Jadarian Price. He’ll be drafted way below what he’s worth. Having watched him for 3 years he’s as good as Love

Texas Tech barely broke 200 total yards against Oregon today. 23-0. JMU had 228 total yards in the 1st half (509 total) AT Oregon. 51-34. Yet a nationwide smear campaign against JMU and the entire G5 ensued the following week.

@MrEvanRoss @flasportsbuzz Why should lower ranked conference champions get in? That’s the real problem. Just let the top 12 teams in.

Honestly, the more I think about this deal, the more angry it makes me. The idea that any team would get in over a higher ranked team simply because they made a deal to make it so is just infuriating. If they want to be eligible for a conference championship spot, join a conference. If not, be ranked high enough to make it. The moment they jump a higher ranked team to get in is the moment you see a mutiny against the CFP.

Why does Notre Dame need to be placated with this new rule that would have given them a playoff berth over Miami? Why does anyone feel pressure to keep them happy?
Ryan Kartje@RyanKartje

USC and Notre Dame were close to announcing a continuation of their rivalry earlier this season, a source told @latimes. USC was ready to compromise and play the ’26 game in November But then USC learned of ND’s agreement w/ the CFP to have a guaranteed spot if in the top 12.

@RumorsandRants @RyanKartje So…ND’s “sweetheart” deal is being guaranteed to be in the 12 team playoff if…checks notes…they are one of the 12 best teams while all other teams have the chance to be guaranteed a spot even if they aren’t one of the 12 best teams. Got it.

Great reporting here by @RyanKartje. USC was all set to agree to an extension to the rivalry as is, then ND’s sweetheart deal with the CFP came to light. It pivoted and offered to keep playing in Week 0, which was what the B1G wanted anyway. Notre Dame refused and walked away.
Ryan Kartje@RyanKartje

USC and Notre Dame were close to a deal to continue their rivalry series. Then, Selection Sunday happened, and a new reality came into focus for USC. One where it made no sense to schedule the Irish at any time other than Week Zero. Notre Dame declined: latimes.com/sports/usc/sto…

If ND was as big of a brand as it thinks it is then ESPN would be wanting them in the CFP ND isn’t among the 10 most watched teams in the sport 4-8 South Carolina averaged over 200k more viewers a game this season than Notre Dame did I think the Pop-Tart Bowl will be fine man
Jeff Kilburg@jeffkilburg

ESPN has pushed the narrative against ND football hard lately & now ESPN is short about $50mm 💰 in revenue from the bowl game they will never get of ND vs. BYU. Arrogance & ignorance is a bad combo.

@jakemalasek Genuinely curious: why don’t we just make this the rule for all 12 teams in the playoff?

@DanWetzel @aonethelp The unprecedented part was flipping two teams that were idle. Correct me if I’m wrong but that had never happened before and completely defies any logical explanation. I’m sure that’s why everyone at ND assumed they were in relative to Miami.

Im not justifying the committee’s decision. Their call not mine. However, if you follow this stuff for years - as ND admins should - then you know there was a chance the committee would see it differently. In regular season: Bama soundly beat Georgia in Athens. BYU got blown out by Tech. As such, a title game loss would be viewed differently and thus treated differently. Fans and players might miss that distinction and the possible ramifications of it. I get that. But administrators at ND should have. This is a big time department. This wasn’t as shocking as it’s being portrayed.

I think this is missing an important piece of context and it’s Bama getting crushed and not dropping. You can’t prepare them to watch a team the committee said was comparable to them get rocked and not drop below you.
Dan Wetzel@DanWetzel

@SethBurn @slmandel I think the scenario was discussed on every podcast I listen to and written about extensively. If BYU lost then ND and Miami were going to be next to each other. Notre Dame was clearly not a lock. The school should have seen that possibility coming.

@tjmcaulay If a player catches the balls standing still, doesn’t move and then an opposing players walks over and bats it out of his hands a full second later is it a catch?

This pass is incomplete as the current rule is written and applied. He gets control and 2 feet down for sure. *After* that, he must maintain control and he *must* perform an act common to the game *OR* have time to do so. The key word is “after”. He does not perform an act common to the game after the 2nd step. He doesn’t get an additional step down and the extension everyone is pointing out occurs *before* the 2nd step is down so it does not apply. In real time, he loses control very quickly *after* the 2nd step, so the time aspect is not met either. I would speculate the Competition Committee will look at this and discuss whether to tweak the rule to make this a catch (I think they should), but right now, this is an incomplete pass by rule.

Notre Dame declines a bowl bid after being left out of the playoff. I think this will become more and more common as playoff grows. Top players aren’t playing in bowls now. Selling tickets will also become more difficult. The entire bowl business will collapse. Feels inevitable.

@Kelly_Crull This is a team with a coach that has one of the highest EQ I’ve seen in the sport. I have to assume that was part of the discussion be for the team voted. Would be surprised if Freeman didn’t point this out before they voted.

Trust me, I get the reasons why--don't need the $, some won't play, no need to risk injuries, we're taking a stand, yada yada...but how disappointing for the seniors who would have wanted to play & certainly for fans who would have enjoyed watching them in a great bowl game

There are real people out here saying the CFP should be expanded because there are "too many" deserving teams. I would argue there are only like 3 teams that actually deserve to be competing for a national title this year.

Among other CFP moments of glory tonight: Vanderbilt beating Tennessee so badly in Neyland that it knocked the Vols out of the Top 25, thus negating any credit the Commodores could have gotten, is a chef's kiss of nonsense.
