LABOUR-LINKED LOBBYING EVENT WITH PROPERTY DEVELOPERS 🥀 I actually went to this Labour YIMBY curry event, paid my £50 in a bid to try to speak to the Secretary of State @SteveReedMP on behalf of the 5.3 million households trapped in leasehold. The position is so desperate for us grassroots campaigners that to petition ministers meant to act in the public interest we have to try our luck against well-funded property interests at events like this one. I was sat up in the Gods and managed to corner Mr Reed as he was leaving the venue and being moved on by his handlers. My email request to meet to discuss the issues with him at @mhclg was fobbed off months later. I wonder if they only came back because of the threat of media exposure, although for once I did not place this story. Steve Reed has no time to hear from the leading grassroots campaign to end leasehold for good. Yet in February, he found a slot in his diary to grant an audience to the Residential Freehold Association, a lobby group for Big Freehold. Just last week, I was blocked on X by Reed’s colleague, housing minister @mtpennycook. Why are they running scared? We have a draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill shorn of policies that voters were promised in the @UKLabour manifesto and King’s Speech: the remaining @Law_Commission recommendations on enfranchisement and Right to Manage. The best corporate lobbyists are those which go undetected...

Exclusive @theipaper, the Housing Secretary went to a “curry night” with major housing developers where exclusive “corporate tables” cost £2,000 plus VAT. inews.co.uk/news/housing-m…

You knew exactly what you were doing when you called @nicolelampert parasitic. It’s a well-worn dog whistle, and quibbling over whether you used the noun or the adjective doesn’t make it any less deliberate. Calling her “shameful” only makes your position look more absurd. You’re turning your party into as one of the most antisemitic and anti-Israel forces in politics, and even your own family has distanced themselves from you. Stop projecting and take responsibility for your own appalling behaviour.

I didn't call you a parasite. I called it parasitic behaviour. You can't even report the basic facts properly that everyone can see in seconds. It should be shameful for you and the entire Daily Mail.
Nicole Lampert@nicolelampert

@ZoeJardiniere I didn’t hound anyone. They came to me. The use of the word parasite is an antisemitic trope. I’d normally expect that of the leader of an antisemitic party but he should know better as a Jewish man.

Reports that Keir Starmer to appoint Sadiq Khan to House of Lords. Why does a socialist PM still make people ‘lords’ in 2026? Why does a socialist Mayor even think of accepting? Labour 2024 manifesto promised to ‘replace’ the Lords with a ‘more representative second chamber.’ What happened to that pledge? Labour has a massive majority and should be able to push through long-overdue radical reform. Or just abolish it. But like every PM before him Starmer has found it convenient to keep the Lords largely as it is (bar getting rid of hereditaries, a modest change). In this case ‘elevating’ Khan to remove him as a leadership threat.

Sadiq Khan just refused to commit to no more new build leasehold buildings in London. Literally moments after banging on about how bad leasehold is and that it's a feudal system. The Labour hypocrisy knows no ends. What do they stand for other than to protect wealth & power?

@HarryScoffin @UKLabour @FreeLeasehlders No surprise they’re knee-deep in lobbyist 💰💰 . Hardly shocking the country’s in a mess — housing and everything else. The whole political system needs a serious overhaul.

I’ve just been blocked by Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook. My crime? Campaigning for fairer housing. Leasehold is a debt trap, destroys lives, and is decimating the flats market. @UKLabour promised to end it. Now they’re stalling... and silencing critics. @FreeLeasehlders

They want you to see property as a bad investment, whilst the big corps have set aside huge budgets to purchase property. We’re seeing campaigns regarding “renting = good” and “buying = bad” already. If you can’t use your brain here, you can’t be helped

We have today taken the first formal step to honouring our manifesto commitment to build the next generation of new towns. Building on the work of the New Towns Taskforce, we are seeking views on the draft programme and its seven proposed sites 👇🏻 gov.uk/government/con…

Everyone cries ‘tax the rich more’  A £150k earner pays £53,460 in tax  A £25k earner pays just £2,486 in tax It takes 21 £25k earners to contribute was one £150k earner does in tax  The  top 1% pay 28.5% of all income tax The bottom 50% only pay 9% of all income tax The problem is not the rich The problem is how much tax is wasted

@HarryScoffin @MattLismore In the UK, leaseholders collectively have the legal right (Right To Manage) to choose their service manager or manage the building directly.

I wanted to stay in central London when moving from my first flat last year. I couldn’t because almost all of the flats available were leasehold & no matter how lovely a flat was, how desirable the area, how convenient it would have been to get to work, I would not do leasehold again. Until leasehold is ended, entirely, people will never view flats as a long term option. That is the reality.
Philip Oldfield@SustainableTall

London has built lots of flats…but few people want to buy them Since 2014, some 20,000 flats have been completed in Wandsworth. But nearly 40% of modern flats there have sold at a loss in the last 5 years archive.is/A3rfy

@iamlegend_2k @linmeitalks Glad we agree execution and timing matter — because that’s precisely why markets dumped gilts. Ignore context, and you repeat the same mistake.

@iamlegend_2k @linmeitalks You’ve just proved the point. Stimulus works when inflation is low and policy is aligned. Doing it at ~11% inflation while the Bank of England was hiking rates wasn’t bold—it was reckless. Markets reacted exactly as you’d expect.

@tpoweeeer @linmeitalks So lets think about the actual mechanisms here. Do you think if inflation was at 2% rather than 11%, and the BofE were not increasing rates, that the markets would tolerate a large fiscal stimulus (tax cuts)? Meaning: less institutional investors selling gilts? (Answer: YES)

@iamlegend_2k @linmeitalks If the policy was “right” but triggered a market crisis within days, forced emergency action by the Bank of England, and had to be reversed weeks later, the problem wasn’t timing — it was credibility. Markets don’t panic over good plans.

@tpoweeeer @linmeitalks Right policy prescriptions, executed incorrectly and at the wrong time. Biggest problem was massive (unfunded) tax cuts at a time when inflation was at ~11%. Government fiscal policy was pressing the accelerator while the central bank was increasing rates and pressing the brake.
