@sunshinevvn It’s 2026, why do third and second base umpires have jobs if not to ensure there is an umpire on both foul lines to call swings. It’s not little league with a 2 man crew home plate umps shouldn’t have to call check swings past highschool

home plate umpires should NOT be allowed to called a swing, no idea why that’s still a rule

@NabeelRehman22 @ADiMarco25 Protections apply after the lottery, so if the leafs finish 8th for example and win 1OA they keep it but if they fell like in your example they wouldn’t. That’s why leafs fans want to finish bottom 3 so a top 5 is guaranteed

@ADiMarco25 Do we know if TOR finishes bottom 5 but they get jumped in the lottery and end up 6/7 if they still get to keep the pick? Thanks Ant

Interesting detail to this: it is my understanding that if TO keeps their 1st this yr (top-5 protected) the 2027 pick will lose its top-10 protection. Given this, the 2027 TO first is arguably the most valuable piece in this package - ie. no inclusion of a Foerster or Martone.
Anthony Di Marco@ADiMarco25

Theoretical trade... TOR receives: Owen Tippett or Trevor Zegras Jett Luchanko Oliver Bonk TO 1st in 2027 3rd round pick in 2028 (if Matthews re signs PHI receives: Auston Matthews (25% retention) Joseph Woll #leafsforever #letsgoflyers

@JayblesBrown @cullenoncurling How do you decide who the top junior team/program is? I think the reality is the top brier teams/the teams that go to worlds/the Olympics don’t get as much as you think and that amount wouldn’t go very far if you split it up among the provincial curling bodies to give to juniors

Seeing the news from Team Plett… Canada is gonna have to start coming up with solutions to keep our best young curlers playing. Two-time national champs and it sounds like 3 of them aren’t gonna play much moving forward. Who knows what the future holds but it’s not a great sign

@cullenoncurling @Frlan How do we compete with that? Curling Canada doesn’t have the resources to pay players and even if they did how would they decide? The process for determining the selection process would probably take years and at that point we’ll have fallen ever further behind

@cullenoncurling You also play worse competition growing up, not much of a challenge for top teams until late U18 provincials then if you lose the rest of the year might be a wash in terms of playing truly good other young teams, maybe we need a way to have top junior teams play more often

@cullenoncurling Location restrictions maybe? When you form a juniors team growing up you may expand your search for players to a couple cities over? don’t know much about a countries like Japans development program but do they make the teams themselves? Or is it like the US’s hockey dev program

@jessek_86 @cullenoncurling University curling doesn’t take off because there is almost no parity, some schools consider it varsity and have scholarships and recruit and some consider it a varsity club and give them nothing, which is why some programs (not to discredit the coaches) are historically better

@cullenoncurling Would love to see university curling take off. I think curling’s schedule lining up exactly with the university calendar hurts retention out of juniors.

@JohnnyGiunta_ COVID helped them. The Sox should’ve just paid him but he did lower his asking price during Covid when he was already on the dodgers, he wouldn’t have signed the deal he did with the dodgers with the Sox the offseason before, still fuck FSG forever though

I might get roasted for this but is it insane to say that the Boston Red Sox played a massive factor in starting the Dodgers dynasty? 3 World Series and having mookie definitely helped them acquire more superstars

@tigerblogger @cullenoncurling Probably thought that was the best way to force 1, that draw did not look there man, that was a nasty shot, you’d rather make them make that for 2 then crash on the guard trying to tap and give them an easier shot for 2

@cullenoncurling Please explain the freeze strategy to allow them a shot for 2?? Why not a tap back to force 1???

@cullenoncurling Yeah they had a really solid comeback this Olympics, really tough to do that mentally when everyone expects you to win and you start out like that. I think Canada’s overall performance at these Olympics is making people take it out on her because of how few events remain

@tragicallyblue Yeah it’s the Olympics. Lots of good teams lose games and high-leverage ones at that. Did they play their best at any point? No. Did they win 5 in a row after a horrible start to quiet the noise and make the playoffs in a crowded field? Yes.

It’s amazing how if you struggle in a few games at the Olympics everyone rewrites the history books. Rachel Homan and her team have had the 2.5 best curling seasons we have ever seen, period. But yeah you definitely have it figured out that such and such was “always the problem”

@polack10 @cullenoncurling All that will lead to is a full year of people questioning the rep and their abilities when they don’t win at slams/the nats. Might not be the ideal method. Also makes the Olympic cycle shift and causes that Olympic team to miss out on new teams/opportunities next cycle

@cullenoncurling Post mortem will be interesting. I hope they regroup and get their Bronze. I think Canada seriously needs to reconsider when our rep gets selected. The stress of the Trials and then having to play Grand Slams. Dumb. Olympic team should have the full season to prep.

Canada just not good enough today and Sweden was solid up and down the lineup. This is where you have to wonder if playing 5 must-win games in a row caught up to them.

@RoncaLeonardo @Devin_Heroux There is more to curling than making your shots, there is always a way to contribute, her having a rough day/week shot% wise doesn’t mean she can’t call line with the best of them, team Homan is at its best when they let Tracy do her thing it’s why they brought her in

Just a single for Canada in the 8th end. Too many misses. And running out of rocks. It’s 5-3 Sweden heading to the 9th end with hammer.

@operantbaby @cullenoncurling Risk reward thing, 5 is not that much better than 4 to where risking not getting 4 is worth it, Homan doesn’t give up 3 often so this is 3 a scoring end deficit either way (if Homan plays well)

@cullenoncurling So that looked like a fairly simple yellow tap for 5…do you think homan thought they were sitting 4? Or wanted to dial her draw weight for late game? 4 is still a really good outcome, I’m just surprised they didn’t go for 5.

@KoolKyd1 @RoncaLeonardo @Devin_Heroux End of the day judged sports are going to judged sport but at least at events without 60/40 you can write it off as bad judging instead of 60/40 where they try to justify the difference without explaining it to the viewer (it’s 10% per trick 40% comp and they don’t give indiv #)

@KoolKyd1 @RoncaLeonardo @Devin_Heroux My main preference is when they don’t hide behind the 60/40 model and just give a score, it feels like the Olympic model stopped them from giving out higher scores and an 82 winning men’s slopestyle is pathetic, good on them but the talent level is way too high for that outcome

It’s not going to be a podium finish in slopestyle for the Canadians. Mark McMorris went for it. And fell hard. And it was remarkable he even competed after a hard fall in training. His competitors showing respect as he walks away. One of the best ever to do it.
