On April 12, 1980, Terry Fox, accompanied by his friend Doug Alward, dipped his right leg into the Atlantic Ocean at St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. It began the Marathon of Hope and turned Fox into a Canadian hero and icon. This is the story. 🧵 1/15

So here’s another look from a Reddit user about the accident near the casino. Apparently, someone stole the semi-trailer and ran away after the accident. The guy hit the truck, which hit and damaged anywhere from 3-10 cars. The offender was caught by the police shortly after.

@jackrichrdson Sabres playing Carolina in Game 7 of ECF. They played Game 6 with 3 of 4 top D out... then lose #1 D Jay McKee to an infection after he played Game 6. Play game 7 with two nobody's from AHL and lose...Oilers were so weak it really was a cup final. nhl.com/sabres/news/bu…

Looking for something to do with family and friends over the Easter weekend? Know someone who watched every game during the Olympics and is eager to try throwing a stone? A fantastic opportunity is coming up on Saturday, April 4 for people new to curling to try it out!

@tragicallyblue I mean other countries are developing elite players much earlier. Bo-bae Kang made the playoffs at a Slam this year. Stefano Spiller is into the top 35. Japan has 3 women’s skips under 25 in the top 30. Ross and Bruce were in Slams at age 23. Why can’t we do it

Seeing the news from Team Plett… Canada is gonna have to start coming up with solutions to keep our best young curlers playing. Two-time national champs and it sounds like 3 of them aren’t gonna play much moving forward. Who knows what the future holds but it’s not a great sign

Here's an interesting page from the Edmonton Journal from mid-Feb, 1983. The St Louis Blues moving to Saskatoon, the Eskimos waiting for Dennis Erickson and a 10th team in the CFL in 1984! A wild news day! Or maybe not.....

Ontario wins 8-7 over Quebec as both teams are now at 4-3. Quick scan of the standings and oh, funny how it works out that it's Ontario vs. Saskatchewan and Quebec vs. PEI in their final draw. I'm down for a chaotic finish. #Brier2026 #curling

Hard to believe today, but black and white TVs were still being sold and bought as secondary or mini TVs well into the 80s. I received my first TV Christmas of 1984 when I was five to watch TV in my room and it was a 13 inch black and white TV. One vivid memory I have is when I mistakenly heard during a week five NFL on NBC halftime show in 1986, that the Raiders would be playing the Seahawks on Monday night. They actually were playing the following week. Unknowingly I begged my Mom to let me watch the first half so I could see my second favorite team, the Raiders and my favorite player, Marcus Allen. I was disappointed to see the Seahawks were actually hosting the Chargers that week. I still feel guilty to this day for some reason, that I inadvertently lied to my Mom about the reason I needed to watch. I watched that game in black and white, but that game is now on Youtube in full color. Anyone else watch a lot of Black and White TV long after all broadcasts were in color?

@Pete___Hughes @PeskySens4life People who call this cheating are ridiculous. A rules infraction in any sport is not cheating. Is going offside in football cheating? Tripping in hockey? Hidden fuel tank in a racecar is cheating. Shortcut a marathon is cheating.

Fun fact, I’ve Curled for 30 years. This scandal is hilarious. It would be absolutely impossible to gain an advantage from randomly touching an already spinning object (spin a top and touch it to see what happens). Touching the rock could just as easily throw it off course.
