@Peston Are we not in this mess because of the @Conservatives govt. of the 1980's? The policy of sell, sell, sell: water, gas, electricity, railways, housing & so many industries. Selling to the richest bidder & no reinvestment has left us in a truly awful position.

Mordaunt keeps saying Labour wants to return the UK to the disaster of the 1980s. I am finding this quite confusing. Because that was Thatcher’s heyday.

Politicians have different views but don't have different facts, and need to be challenged on the detail. #SuellaBraverman says 20,000 more police. No, there're 3,000 more after replacing cuts by Cameron As a lawyer, I'm presuming Mrs Braverman knows a person in the UK is tagged as a result of a court order. Tags send signals to a monitoring centre from the person's place of curfew - do the courts & monitoring centres have capacity? Isn't this just adding more costs to the enormous cost of housing unprocessed #asylumseekers ? She says she'll 'remove illegal migrants more swiftly", where to? Sunak & Braverman need to stop wasting millions of our taxes on PR stunts and come up with robust solutions - eg turbo charge processing, restore promised Afghan scheme and set up legal routes Reminder - youtu.be/hQvh6qDrOMw?si…

Why have news outlets been saying all day that 70% of leavers would vote leave again. It was based on Question Time Leave audience in Clacton, not proper polling. BBC audience was asked whether Brexit was the right thing to do: 70% still agreed 20% would vote differently 10% were unsure Professional polling: 52.6% think UK was wrong to leave. Of that number, 69% of 16 - 44 yrs think UK was wrong to leave v 27% of 65+ trueandfairparty.uk/time_to_pull_t… @VoteTrueAndFair @LBC @PaulBrandITV

@MartinSLewis I'm not sure that your current colleague Richard Madeley, or one of your predecessors, Piers Morgan tie in with the accusation of ITV being a left wing channel anyway! 🤔🤣 Keep doing what you are doing Martin - it is much appreciated! 👏👏👏

Here’s my payslip as a first year doctor in 2005, next to a first year doctor colleague’s in 2023. 18 years later, their take home salary is less than mine was. I lived for free in hospital accommodation and had a fraction of their student loan. #JuniorDoctorsStrike

Good to see in today's WhatsApp download that Matt Hancock and the Government were more worried about themselves than the safety of the public, or Matt Hancock's wife and family. Sickening levels of selfishness.

Thought the Hofmeister bear was in the recycling bin of history. Used to buy and drink the yellow cans in an earlier life when I should’ve known better. Rediscovered it on draft in a pub today. Had a pint of something else.

Hancock’s jungle £320,000 and Johnson’s £510,000 book advance is further proof prominent Tories are lining their own pockets in a cost of living crisis.

PS if you're wondering why the different amounts. Its so they will be able to pin point which payment you've had and which not more easily if there are problems (which is actually quite clever)
Martin Lewis@MartinSLewis

UPDATE: On the £900 cost of living payment for 8m on means-tested benefits. It'll come in 3 instalments - £301 'Spring' 23 (as its for the next tax year, it'll be after 6 April) - £300 'Autumn' 23 (I'd guess Oct/Nov) - £299 'Spring' 24 (I'd guess before tax year ends on 6 April)

@Kevin_Maguire We all were asked to pay more NI to help solve the bed blocking care crisis. Apparently It was not the right time because of cost of living crisis. It is always ' not the right time' and therefore the problem will never be fixed. Also too many unnecessary admin roles in NHS.

The NHS cannot become a volunteer service. Labour will abolish the non-dom tax status to train 7,500 more doctors and 10,000 more nurses & midwives a year. The NHS needs doctors and nurses more than the wealthiest need a tax break. theguardian.com/society/2022/d…
