Living in baltimore while having DC friends is so much harder without late night MARC service. My weekends would be sooo much better if there was even just one train back at like 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights

@JacksonFromTwit I feel like the majority of martini orderers just want an olive brine-heavy cocktail to the point that it's no longer a martini, but the menus and culture haven't caught up to that

@maxtmcc It's kinda funny how warren tried to smear bernie in 2020 by alleging he said this, to the point that he had to answer to it (deny it) on the debate stage. But now it's trendy for michelle obama to say the same thing out in the open. Culture just goes in circles i guess

It’s weird there aren’t more savory drinks. Take broth for instance. There are so many broths I would absolutely drink straight out of a mug. So how come there’s no Starbucks for broths? Am I just weird?

@transit_takes @BmoreCityDOT ...If fully implemented as described in the plan, this stop would no longer need to be served, as it would be served by a stop located closer to the Harbor Point development.

@maiamindel So I think the male paradigm of the past was pro-specialization, with a downside being the tendency to excuse bad people because of their special talent. The female paradigm is pro-admirable-general-person, with the downside being less appreciation for greatness

@maiamindel Female admiration is very nuanced and singular, centered around generally being cool, having a good vibe, elegant, etc. If you fit that on a personal level, that's admirable without much care for any specific excellence. "Doing their thing" is just a manifestation of being a vibe

influencers have replaced everything. being an actor or a musician or a writer is just treating your work as fodder for sponsored social media posts and brand deals. politicians see their jobs as clip farming. real life is just a content farm for shortform vertical video

@JerusalemDemsas At the very least id wanna see the polling for "data centers", "large language models", then some other specific AI tech of today like self-driving cars. A random person off the street would assume that's what you meant if you asked them about polarizing tech sentiment

@JerusalemDemsas Ehhh idk, I feel like more AI questions should've been in this poll which is what the thesis is mostly about. It's kind of a strawman to ask mostly about science/medical, which idt anyone thinks has a gap (if anything, I would've guessed the gap is in the other direction)

The “women are anti-tech progress” thesis survives by cherry-picking the same 2–3 examples. Nuclear is the classic case, but even there, plenty of data suggests both men and women have serious safety concerns. We decided to test a bunch more technologies to see whether the gender gap actually persists. Result: across a broad range of technologies, the gender gap is negligible. This is deeply embarrassing but I just discovered that "frame-mogging" is about your literal body frame and not the more esoteric red pill ideal of "holding frame." Millennialmogged once again.

A challenge of being a true SF lover is the persistent instinct people to have to compare to NYC. I have essentially spent my whole life in San Francisco, I love it and it's perfect for me, and I have... not a bad word to say about NYC, a beautiful and extremely fun city.

@paleonormie A bad bunny, the-one-and-only figure doesn't really have a place in anglosphere pop these days, nor does a cutesy BTS figure, outside of gay pop. the weeknd is maybe a counterexample as he's dominated streams into the 2020s, but even he has a fairly uncelebrated persona

@paleonormie I agree but I think that was always true, so it wouldn't explain a change to the extent it's real. Part of it's definitely (masculine at least) rap in its natural decline after a long run, and less demand for an nsync or justin bieber heartthrob figure in the "for the girls" era

@ZaidJilani Developing take here: Dem politicians of the old guard marketed themselves as more moderate than they truly were, trying to seem broadly acceptable. Based on Mamdani/AOC so far, and my sense of millennial/gen z culture, a shift might be starting where politicians do the opposite

This morning, I joined @PIX11News to announce a new executive order requiring every city agency to designate a Chief Savings Officer. Within 45 days, these officers will identify which city services deliver the strongest results for New Yorkers—and where we can streamline processes and cut waste. The goal is simple: make sure every public dollar works harder to deliver a safer, cleaner, and more affordable city.
