[ADMIN POST] Thank you @eugeniasokol for your wonderful week to round out our curations for 2021 👏 This week: no heavy lifting, just many, many thanks & the occasional silly tweet. We'll be back to our regular rotation in January. Til then have a safe & relaxing break! 🥂

I used to never work evenings or weekends (boundaries!), but then I had a kid (now 2) and chose to take care of them full time, so evenings & weekends are my only real work time. Do you keep "regular" business hours of some sort? How do you communicate your schedule to clients?

@vero_demi That's a good one! My trusted colleagues tend to be very busy, though, so I worry that if I refer the client to someone who also can't take the job, somehow that ends up bad for everyone. But I think I need to let that thought go.

One of my biggest struggles as a freelancer is knowing when/how to say "no." The client will be disappointed! If not me, who?! BUT there's just not enough time in the day for everything. Do you have any strategies for turning down requests?

Meanwhile, a disadvantage of working with agencies is not having a direct line to end clients, not knowing what their expectations are, or where they might have a misconception about my work. (Some see that as an advantage, though!)

I do a lot of documents for individuals (for immigration, education, etc.), and I've heard other translators say that kind of work isn't for them because all the back-and-forth with clients can be tedious. But I like it! I really feel like I'm helping them out.

As I answer client emails this morning, client education is on my mind. What does "client education" mean to you? Do you enjoy it? Put up with it? Despise it?

Another hat I wear is @ATA_SLD administrator. What T&I organization(s) are you a member of? What do you get out of it? Is there anything you wished those organizations would do more of?

It's been such a hectic day I never answered my own question! I always got a thrill when the target finally matched its source - and I can get paid for that?? I'm still in it for those kicks, but after becoming a parent I've come to value the flexibility of freelancing.

New question as we head back into the workday: What appealed to you about translation/interpreting that spurred you to do it professionally? And is that still what you like most about it?

It's the evening where I am (US East Coast), so even though I'm actually working (shh), relaxation is on my mind. What do you do to unwind and take your mind off work? Is it word-related or emphatically not? I sew and drink tea.

As I mentioned in my introduction, my favorite is handwritten historical documents. It's a fun puzzle crossed with a fascinating peek into a completely different time.

Something I've loved about this account is seeing the wide variety of T&I professionals and professions out there. So, to try to get a peek at that variety again, here's a question: what's your ideal project or assignment? Why? Can be one you've done or only daydreamed about!
