@JohnDHamblin @jm_ziegler This is a valid concern, and is why bonds should never be used to cover operating expenses. These bonds are only for capital assets with a useful life of >20 years. With construction costs rising 5-6% per year, paying 4% interest to build it now is a better than waiting

Great! No more excuses...get the garbage picked up, the graffiti painted over and the potholes filled. No more third world streets...and keep that money away from the crooked non-profits!

@StatisticUrban Volume is where metric is the undeniable champion. Miles/Feet/inches vs km/m/cm is worse but overall fine. tsp/tbsp/oz/cup/pint/quart vs ml/L is indefensible

@IDoTheThinking Which term is used doesn’t concern me one way or the other, but it’s a fact that “Latinx” is alive and well in Bay Area government. Here’s one example but I could find many others: a18.asmdc.org/newsletter/rai…

@streetsblogkea @humantransit Mobility choice. + health/activity! The bike/ped movement made a mistake by sidelining the benefits and joy of walking/biking, to focus solely on safety risk. Vision Zero is a moral argument (one I accept btw), and it doesn’t connect with a lot of folks

Voters, officials frustrated with slow Alameda County ballot count.
Thursday’s election results update included just a few thousand new votes, not enough to gain insights into election outcomes.
oaklandside.org/2024/11/08/vot…

@cathasach4bikes It’s because most of the vote hasn’t been counted. Stay tuned while Alameda County takes its time…
Dan Kopf@dkopf
According to the AP, we have numbers for just 28% of the vote in Alameda County. If it's not the slowest county in the U.S., it's got to be up there. Not making a value judgment here, but it is certainly notable.

Welp, I don't get it, but the ALCO Registrar's update too the Oakland count is of something less than 200 votes from what I can tell
Jaime Omar Yassin@hyphy_republic
Well, this is annoying. ROV says they updated, but its the same numbers as 1am Weds morning
English

@hyphy_republic SF said 4pm, and the update was there at 4:02. AC is "sometime today", and now I'm just sitting around refreshing my browser. Hope they update soon!
English

@transpocrat Yeah, they didn't tell people when to expect a vote count today. I think its usually around 4 or 5, so its now late, I guess

@the_transit_guy Silly take. A Prius can go 0-30 in 100’. EVs even faster. Street design (while extremely important!) can’t eliminate dangerous driving. Vehicle regulation and automated enforcement are critical tools in every country that takes traffic safety seriously
English

Hot take: not a fan. Just design streets to limit the speed of a vehicle, not a big brother device.
San Francisco Chronicle@sfchronicle
California would become the first state to require new vehicles be equipped with speed governors — technology that limits how fast they can be driven — under legislation by San Francisco state Sen. Scott Wiener. trib.al/QMuCCkO
English

@markasaurus @byJoshuaDavis Yes! SFCTA provided $4M for the program (proceeds from Uber/Lyft tax) earlier this year. New traffic calming process is revised to cut time from application to installation from 3 years to 9 months. Hope it works!

@StreetsblogSF Link in article to "current city law" is a 2003 memo, but City Code changed in 2008. Skateboards are regulated as "Non-motorized User-propelled Vehicles" (NUVs) and are allowed to ride on most streets outside of business districts codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/san_fran…
