The beginning of Nussbaum’s book Political Emotions: Why Love Matters for Justice has this quotation from Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro. So wise and timely.

I’m going to step away for a little. It’s all seeming a bit much for me right now.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

"I was 72 years old the last year I coached and I had no problem relating to players.. I changed a lot throughout the years because the players changed.. I did it for 50 years and you have to adapt your progrum" ~ Nick Saban #PMSLive

@LR_chis Honestly, my favorite part about the 2024 season is that it really feels like an open door. Maybe a few look like they could take it all, but everyone looks vulnerable. It’s going to be fun to see how it ends up!

@Predamame I loved my time running D3. It’s the best division in my opinion. Just a bunch of kids who love to run really fast.

@CoachDistance My teams tend to be in the small side, so it’s not usually an issue. But this year we had 9 boys and 10 girls. I created a top 10 performance list for each athlete that I’ve been updating all seasons. I see who’s trending, who’s been consistent, and who gives us the best shot.

I’ve also taken a similar approach to my programming in my coaching. We’ve largely avoided big workouts so kids can recover and perform at their meets.

A mindset shift that has helped me with my own health and fitness is a focus on consistency rather than fitness. I used to do big workouts thinking that these would boost my fitness. Now I focus on lower intensity work so that I can keep showing up. This has been a game changer.
