But, as usual, the vast majority of our colleagues give zero informed consent and cannot see through pharmaceutical propaganda. This was a BAD idea from the very start. I call it insane algorithmic medicine without common sense. The patient fills out an Edinburgh Depression Scale and if the magic number is reached then BINGO - give her a prescription for a psychiatric medication. We should have known better. ObGyn physicians who do not know history in their own specialty are doomed to repeat it. How could we have forgotten the The Smiley Face Pain Scale aka the Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale. That worked out really well in the 90’s - it was a bloody disaster causing a generation of narcotic addicted pregnant women. How could we have forgotten DES ? How could we have forgotten thalidomide?
