Another fantastic piece by @mbolotnikova. Many Americans think density failed because “public housing failed,” but how much of its failure is a design failure? Isolated high-rise projects failed because they concentrated poverty and cut residents off from street life and everyday social mixing. The successful HOPE VI program replaced “anti-urban” towers with dense, mixed-income blocks, which facilitate street life and social interaction

The awesome new Courtyard Composer tool and the gorgeous images it has been bringing to your feed are brought to you by collaboration between *two* awesome Urbanist Ventures-supported projects: @treasury_space and @UrbanCourtyard! Treasury was made for this moment. And this cross-pollination between talented urbanist founders is magic I could have only dreamed of a few years back when I got started.

Happy to see the call of @patrickc and @tylercowen pick up momentum in the built design conversation, in particular with @UrbanCourtyard.
Alicia, Courtyard Urbanist@UrbanCourtyard

hi I am DELIGHTED to partner with @createstreets to explore how @patrickc and @tylercowen's call for a New Aesthetics can inspire urban reinvention--through the linked essay, "Towards a New Aesthetics of Abundance: Courtyard Urbanism, Buildings Without Worth, and a New Ecology of Building" Across domains, more creators and thinkers are acting on a shared desire for something truly "valuable and worthy," echoing @patrickc’s call for a new aesthetic. Some are calling for design competitions; others for bold experimentation on the ground. (x.com/stephwakefield…) Courtyard Urbanist aims to be both a forum for the best of this work and a bridge between ideas and action in real cities and real lives. Share your thoughts via the new website, sign up for beta access to the Courtyard Composer (developed with @treasury_space), and use the images and ideas you create to help make a new aesthetics real.

ICYMI: the new courtyard visualizations were created using Courtyard Composer (composer.courtyardurbanist.com), a tool I am launching in collaboration with Treasury (treasury.space), a spatial design company founded by architects. Courtyard Composer is designed to help people imagine, communicate, and ultimately plan and design the kinds of urban courtyard environments they want to live in. Courtyard Composer is currently in active testing and refinement, and you are invited to participate as a beta tester. You can sign up here: courtyardurbanist.com/survey/3627859

TLDR -- I'm inviting you to sign up and TEST the extremely new and exciting Courtyard Composer (sign up, it's free, via my Substack urbancourtyard.substack.com). Let's imagine courtyard block designs to help guide the "new aesthetics" conversation in a green, urbane, and family-friendly direction.

Treasury Sessions are back, and we're diving straight into one of the most crucial conversations in spatial computing: the intersection of IP rights and creative innovation. This session marks the first of two deep dives into this critical subject. As spatial technology reshapes our digital landscape, we face a critical juncture in how we handle intellectual property. Rather than repeat the mistakes of previous technological revolutions, we have an opportunity to establish thoughtful frameworks that protect creators while fostering innovation. Join us for an essential discussion led by three distinguished experts: Brittan Heller (Stanford Law School) - pioneer in XR/spatial computing rights Max Sills (General Counsel, Midjourney) - at the forefront of AI-generated content John Manoochehri (CEO, Treasury) - bridging computational design and spatial technology This session explores how we can leverage AI to enhance spatial creativity while protecting professional creators, examine ownership in AI-generated content, and discuss platform responsibilities in the spatial age. While this session won't be livestreamed, video will be available afterward on our YouTube channel. Don't miss this opportunity to engage with leading minds shaping the future of spatial technology and IP law. Register here: treasury.space/sessions/tamin…

FundamentalVR has released version 2.0 of its surgical training application for the Apple Vision Pro system, marking a significant step forward in spatial computing for medical education. This development in spatial computing technology is reshaping how healthcare professionals learn and practice, potentially leading to improved patient outcomes. It joins recent offerings from other major players like Karl Storz, Siemens Healthineers, and Stryker in leveraging Apple's VR technology for surgical education. Richard Vincent, CEO and Co-Founder of FundamentalVR, said of the release, "With this release, we are redefining the future of medical training by making it more accessible and immersive than ever before." The convergence of spatial computing and healthcare represents a pivotal moment not only for medical training but also for defining the value proposition of spatial environments. These environments derive their worth not just from their visual appeal, but from their purposeful design and development for specific use cases. In healthcare, this means creating spaces that enhance learning, improve procedural accuracy, and ultimately contribute to better patient care. Moreover, the data generated by users interacting with these environments holds significant value. User feedback and performance metrics can be analyzed to refine training programs, improve medical devices, and drive innovation in healthcare delivery. This data, when properly anonymized and aggregated, can be licensed to researchers, medical device manufacturers, and healthcare institutions – creating new revenue streams and accelerating advancements in the field. To explore these concepts further, Treasury will be hosting upcoming Science Sessions focused on 3D digital space design in spatial computing. To stay informed on these upcoming sessions and the latest advancements in spatial computing across various industries, subscribe to Treasury's newsletter. Gain valuable insights into how this technology is transforming not just healthcare, but numerous sectors of our increasingly digital world – and how it's creating new paradigms for value creation and innovation.
