@EmilyAssembly You do realize that implementing the CLCPA requires more gas fired peaker plants to ensure grid reliability, right? Why would the "oil and gas industry" be opposing a policy that it actually benefits from?

Democratic leaders shouldn’t fall for oil and gas industry talking points: NY’s energy affordability crisis is directly linked to our over-reliance on gas. We must implement the CLCPA and build towards a future that is not dependent on fossil fuels. cityandstateny.com/opinion/2026/0…

@wxbywilliams @blairhorner Kevin, they know, but they don't care. The lobby pushing this doesn't care because there is money to be made for their clients. The true believers don't care because they think NY has an obligation to be a shining city on a hill.

@blairhorner Can you show us the math that equates raising taxes on New Yorkers - via the so-called climate bill, with improving the global weather?

She’s right about this “the CLCPA, also known as the Climate Act, is not the primary driver of the current high utility rates” so focus on solutions that help energy costs now governor.ny.gov/news/gas-price…

@LizAGMoran Why do you believe that raising costs even higher on New Yorkers will change the global weather for the better? Please show your data, otherwise, it's nonsensical.

Manufactured crisis. Our climate law doesn’t require this, and weakening it will drive up reliance on gas just as gas costs are going up! No secret deals in the budget!
Jennifer Lewke@WHEC_JLewke

Today, @GovKathyHochul asked the state leg to work w/her to figure out the best path forward when it comes to the CLCPA. As we've reported, @nyserda believes to fully implement this law in the timeline that's been laid out, upstate households could face $4k more in energy costs.

@BobLonsberry A cynical person would observe that this will create a lot of new work for "family business" lawyers. LLC assets are not part of the estate.

The Mamdani call for a change to estate taxes will push most widows out of their homes and eliminate most family equity. Requiring taxes on estates over $750K will hit most homeowners, and tax rates as high as 50% will require liquidation of inherited assets to cover the tax.

The nonsensical steak and lobster controversy reveals several problems in America today: 1. The veteran population is vanishingly small, meaning so is the population of veteran families. This means that it’s easy to fool most Americans into believing Pete Hegseth takes a bath every night draped in steaks and lobster tails. Only veterans and their families know this is a morale booster that has been going on basically forever. 2. All Democrat messaging is coordinated, 100% of the time. Even an Army Ranger veteran like Jason Crow—who knows better—posted this idiotic idea. For Democrats, approved messaging trumps truth, even when you know you are lying. So what mid-20th Century country ruled by a guy named Joe with a big mustache does that sound like? 3. Democrats—especially Democrat Congress members—really don’t give a crap about “the troops.” They only see the troops as political props, and they see veterans as just another grievance group to exploit. 4. The Democrats are so desperate to impugn Pete Hegseth over ANYTHING that this is just another of their feeble character assassination attempts. They hate Pete because he has abandoned the social experimentation military in favor of the warfighting military. 5. Something has to change in military culinary training so steaks are not always well done.

This is dumb. AI can’t ever be actually conscious because it doesn’t have subjective experience. It isn’t like anything to be AI. There is no experience there. Consciousness is the awareness and experience of self. AI has neither, and never will. The real risk (which I’m extremely worried about) is that AI becomes kind of a version of what has been called a “philosophical zombie,” which is something that acts and speaks entirely as though it has consciousness even though it has no genuine inner experience. When this happens with AI, millions of very lonely people will isolate themselves from the world even more, believing that their relationship with AI is a sufficient substitute for human interaction. So the nightmare scenario is a world where the average human has friends, coworkers, and even a spouse, who are all AI, all really nothing inside, not real. I think this probably will happen, and is already in the process of happening. And to me it’s an even greater horror than AI actually becoming conscious.

This NYS bill will literally kill Same patient a few months earlier. Chemo was interfering with warfarin which his cardio doc had inexplicably kept him on for years despite the rise of DOACs Patient assumes that his INR reader is broken because it’s reading max high. He’s trying to return it to the manufacturer (the reader). Cardio doc is on vacation. He asks me to help switch out the battery. Same read. Still thinks machine is broken. AI highlights the interaction risk with chemo. We go in to get INR tested. Off the charts. Dangerously thin. He’s running a 1 in 10 annualized risk of a brain bleed stroke. Odds of his dying are increased by 60% for every day he’s at that level. Doc on vacation. Physicians assistant advises him to get over the counter vitamin K which is basically no better than placebo and perhaps worse (not least because he buys vitamin K2 which won’t do a thing.) Due to AI I know that this is instead possible hospitalization terrain and also know that we need to find another doc to get a vitamin K Rx. In a perfect world we would all have access to trained experts at the moment that we need them. In the real world we are all underserved. We are all mostly amateurs in most realms. Denying people in need access to expertise when that expertise can literally save a life is no different than murder by neglect. And for what? To win some political plaudits and garner some campaign donations? You, yes you: You deserve to die because this particular politician wants to raise their profile and this protected class wants to preserve their franchise. That is the implicit message of the New York State AI bill. That I - just a regular schmoe who happens to use technology - can honestly relay these anecdotes from just the past few months suggests that they are not that uncommon. This bill will kill unless we kill this bill

RADAR UPDATE: It's close, but I'm encouraged by the fact temperatures are a few degrees above freezing this afternoon. Our next slug of moisture will lift northward and bring cold rain for the afternoon commute. As this precip falls, temperatures will drop another degree or two. There are a few spots near Lake Ontario currently hovering around 33°-34°, so I can't completely discount a brief period of freezing rain. Should this occur, brevity greatly limits any issues. Otherwise, expect a soggy afternoon and evening.

@DaveShapi I don't think that is the argument here.. a wrong information in case of medicine or legal issue can ruin the receivers life. It's like a self driving car getting into an accident.. if you know the car is not capable to drive safely you ban it from the roads
