@AndrewHolnessJM We are proud to partner with Jamaica, planting food bearing trees for food security, economic development, and a cleaner environment. Now reaching 20+ countries, TTFF began in 2009 when our Jamaican-born co-founders Mary & Mike McLaughlin planted breadfruit trees in JA.

In our first Parliamentary sitting for 2026, Minister Matthew Samuda updated the nation on the impact of Hurricane Melissa on our forests and the actions we are taking to restore them.
Before the hurricane, 47% of Jamaica’s land was covered by forests, with steady growth verified by satellite and field assessments. On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage, particularly in western, central, and northern parishes. Assessments show that 51% of impacted forests suffered moderate to severe damage, including 42,000 hectares of broadleaf forests, urban tree cover losses, and 23% of mangroves affected. This has implications for water, biodiversity, flood protection, and community safety.
In response, we have launched the RE-LEAF Initiative, Reforestation, Ecological Enhancement and Landscape Framework, as our national plan for forest recovery and resilience. Between January and June 2026, the Forestry Department will plant 300,000 seedlings, including 170,000 in priority watersheds, 50,000 in urban areas, and 30,000 fruit trees to support food security and livelihoods.
This effort is supported by partners like Trees That Feed and local nurseries, with plans to expand nursery capacity in western Jamaica to improve seedling production and delivery.
The National Tree Planting Initiative-Phase Two will plant an additional 3 million trees, with a launch from January 29 to February 2, 2026, across forest reserves, mangroves, and urban communities. These efforts strengthen our forests, protect our watersheds, and support communities against climate change.
Jamaica will meet this challenge with action, protecting our land and securing our future.

So proud of Pierre-Moise Louis, with whom we have been working since 2013. Then a young entrepreneur, he has become a leader in the breadfruit industry and now a partner of @WFP and @ilo. We value our relationship with you very much,@PierreMoiseLOU1! And thank you, @CreoleBauer!
Jean-Martin Bauer@CreoleBauer
In #Haiti 🇭🇹, @WFP proudly leverages local foods like breadfruit for nutrition and food security. Earlier today I met Pierre-Moise, an entrepreneur whose breadfruit mill supplies flour to 39 schools in Grand’Anse. 👇🏽

@CreoleBauer @WFP Thank you, @CreoleBauer, @WFP, @ilo and everyone making this happen! The dreams we had for @PierreMoiseLOU1 when we met him in 2013 have been steadily coming true. THIS is hope for Haiti.
