Netflix doccie reopens wounds as Stompi Moeketsi case and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s dark past resurface A gripping new Netflix documentary "The Trials of Winnie Mandela" is set to reopen one of South Africa’s most painful and controversial chapters, dragging the name of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela back into the spotlight, alongside the haunting story of teenage activist Stompi Moeketsi. The upcoming seven-part series The Trials of Winnie Mandela promises to dig deep into the life, legacy and scandals that defined the woman once hailed as the “Mother of the Nation.” But this is no ordinary tribute. The doccie will feature voices from Stompi Moeketsi’s family, as well as relatives of others linked to the infamous Mandela United Football Club bringing raw, emotional testimony about events that shook the country decades ago. At the heart of the storm is the 1988 killing of 14-year-old Stompi Moeketsi (also known as Stompie Seipei), a case that became one of the most damaging controversies of Madikizela-Mandela’s career.
