Announcing General Proximity's $12M, 2x over-subscribed, pre-Series A round. Medicine is in the dark ages. Our understanding of biology far exceeds our ability to perturb it therapeutically.

There’s an enormous gap in the longevity field that almost no one is talking about. No existing therapeutic modalities are capable of both systemic distribution and complex transformations. Until we solve this, we won’t solve aging. 🧵

@HoorayForZinder Also would recommend pepsin treatment O/N at 37 C - helped me unclog columns in the past

New study on #transcription regulation in human #placenta development - we find that the transcription factor #TFEB is required for the differentiation of a fusing cell type in the placenta (syncytiotrophoblasts) by controlling cell-cell fusion! biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 🧵

Happy to share the preprint of my first research paper from grad school on how the epigenetic silencer PRC2 is inhibited by histone modifications found at actively transcribed genes - check out the thread for more details!
The Nogales Lab@NogalesLab

Check out our latest work on PRC2 and its inhibition by active transcription histone posttranslational modifications led by @trincookis and work from twitterless undergraduate Alexandria Lydecker, @paulvictorsauer, and @vignesh_k757 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Happy to say the first paper of my PhD is now up on @biorxivpreprint ! I discovered an activation pathway of an essential protein complex and unexpectedly found that VPS15 is a pseudokinase that binds GTP! Thanks @MinghaoChen10 and Snow Ren and all authors for a great collab :)
Hurley Lab@TheHurleyLab

New preprint! @AutophaZeke’s PI3KC3-C1/RAB1A structure reveals that VPS15 is a GTP-binding pseudokinase that repurposes the kinase fold to regulate a myristoylation, and stabilize a large rotation in the VPS34 lipid kinase to promote membrane binding and PI(3)P synthesis!

We made a 16-page comic explaining what chemical engineering actually is, through AIChE support, with art by the great Monix Keszler, and script help by my undergrad Ira Hysi. Probably the best educational comic I've ever made. Feel free to use and share! northeastern.edu/landherr/stem-…

Today I learn a lot helping Zoe Watson with streptavidin grid production! Zoe is now a postdoc ⁦@TheBlanchardLab⁩ and she was well trained at the ⁦@cate_lab⁩ Can you see the strep xtal growing on the grid 👇🏽👀? Cryo image from our humble Talos L120C

A special day for our fearless leader. Congratulations to both Eva, @CramerLab, and all of the lab members who contributed toward our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of transcription initiation.
