I can tell you one thing none of those guys above would fix that tank. Everyone who wore the uniform especially in GWOT times had a valuable job and lots of guys were doing multiple additional duties. Wrenching isn't glamorous but it's essential and hugely respectable. I loved shooting the shit with our mechanics.

It is amazing the amount of special forces guys, seals, EOD, rangers, pilots, etc on here. I was a tank mechanic. I feel like I should have done more…lol

On top of being a soldier is not their full time position. Got a lot of guys who own their own businesses, very successful guys in their profession and to take off 62 days not to mention for pre-ranger if they're lucky to get it and you're looking at months away from their main source of income and responsibility. I totally get it and don't look differently at a single NG soldier without the tab. Or actually any soldier. Tab don't make the man, the man makes the tab!

Let's do some basic math for a second shall we? A "rough average" of Ranger School slots that are allocated to the National Guard per year is between 300-400 slots. Let's take the high number of 400 and divide it by 50 states (We're not adding in any additional territories that also have NG units). 400/50 = 8 Ranger school slots/state/year. (For reference, Minnesota has between 11-13,000 soldiers) This means SECWAR had to be one of the EIGHT selected from his state to be allowed to go to Ranger School. Those of us who have served in the military know how specialty schools, with miniscule slots, are allocated among the troops, but I won't open that can of worms. Dispense with the whole "Pete didn't have a Ranger Tab" nonsense because he probably had a better chance of winning the lottery versus getting one of the big eight slots allocated to his state. (8 slots => 13,000 troops) Finding a NG Officer with a Ranger Tab (that he did not earn while active) is a rarity. Pete's lack of a Ranger Tab in the NG is the norm not the exception.

@BulwarkOnline Seen plenty of Majors without a tab. Is it common in the infantry no, but it's not the be all end all especially since they lowered standards for females. It's a fact, not interested in bullshit that says otherwise. Dilute standards and it doesn't hold near the weight it used to.

Written those letters too, never opened one though. Don't know that I really wanna go down that road but very interesting perspective and I guess now I'm gonna have to buy that book 🤣👍🏻. I don't think a lot of people understand how vulnerable that can be releasing something like that, huge amount of respect to you for that. I recently found all of my letters like that and deployment journals cleaning out an old storage unit and I haven't opened any of it yet, TBD!

Three times I walked out the door as a combat fighter pilot and wrote a letter to my wife and kids in case I did not come home. I put one of those letters in my book Fly Into the Wind. Not to be dramatic but because I wanted people to understand how deeply those who serve love this country. Love this state. Love their families.

Desde un sofá, con tu tele, tu internet, tu calefacción y tu comida es fácil opinar sobre otros, sin saber NADA de lo que realmente pasa. Las tenistas rusas no tienen la culpa de la guerra, obvio, pero hay que tener en cuenta algo que cambia todo: los deportistas representan a su país. Kostyuk representa a Ucrania, cualquier tenista rusa, a Rusia. ¿Y qué sucede con esto? Aunque ellas no lo quieran, pueden ser usadas como armas políticas. Las tenistas ucranianas no saludan a las rusas o bielorrusas porque el gobierno ucraniano tomó la decisión de no saludar a sus homónimos rusos al reunirse para negociar. Es su decisión. Se trata de respeto a su país. A su gente. Si Kostyuk diese la mano a una rusa, aunque Andreeva no tenga culpa de nada, que no la tiene, ¿sabéis lo que eso implicaría? Sería usado como imagen en contra de los suyos. Sería como insultar a su país. Además, su familia, que vive allí, serían muy mal vistos por su propia gente. Los hombres, además, tienen prohibido salir del país. Piensa en cómo te sentirías tú si tus padres, abuelos, hermanos y amigos estuvieran en esas condiciones, y si no harías lo que fuera por evitarles más problemas y sufrimientos. Lo que debería es acabar esta maldita guerra para que volvamos a la normalidad de una vez y no tengamos que hablar de política tras la victoria de una tenista en un WTA 1000.
