@Tunde_OD Fully agree. Fighting poverty isn’t just govt’s job, it’s a collective effort. This is how it works everywhere. Even in the UK and US, charities work with govt to tackle poverty. Engaging govt to discuss solutions is not betrayal. You’re doing your part and should be encouraged.

And for the ones who continue to blab about “dining”, “frolicking “ etc. That’s a delusional narrative for honoring a president’s invite. But if we apply your “Dining” logic broadly to others, your hypocrisy becomes obvious and you will scramble to make excuses. The truth is I will continue to engage the government wherever necessary because it’s a duty of leadership. Not easy but necessary for the sake of the children and for solutions. Engagement is not endorsement. My fight is different, and your own fight is valid. But take it to the appropriate quarters and quit wasting your time here. My oga has said I should leave you people alone now, so, as you were…

@iOccupyNigeria @niyiakinmolayan Every infrastructure project that was successfully executed is celebrated all over the world. When the Victoria line rail project was completed and became operational, it was celebrated and govt that delivered it use it as a positive talking point of what they have achieved.

@ennymoney212 @biyibjorn You are not intelligent at all. You are comparing Finland which has a population of less than 6M people with Nigeria that has over 240m population. The population of Lagos alone is more than 15m. It’s not a big deal that there is no homelessness in Finland.

There are NGOs for millions of homeless people in the USA and the UK. Rashford got an MBE for his Child Food Poverty Taskforce initiative. Who drove millions of poor hungry UK kids into that state ? You guys are idiots and it’s should be criminal trying to make you see reasons.

"Slum to School". The slum has to exist. Why does it exist? He knows why. I have no problem with his person. I also have no reason why he should pitch on Obi's or any other candidate's side. But you can't say you're angry, and then join in dining with the source of your angst.

A chessboard cost 20eurs at Lidl by the way . Can even be printed if you have a 3D printer . You’re trying to get kids out of the slums by engaging them in playing chess (cool stuff) you genuinely have no business laying in bed with the people that put them there ! Also why tf you selling chessboard to fucking Tinubu in the first place? What’s the motive ?

@PerspectiveLord @Illusionist_126 What exactly are you on about? Poverty didn’t start in 2015, and it’s not one person’s job to end it. It’s a collective responsibility. Even developed countries have poverty + charities tackling it. So why attack someone actually helping, just because he chose to be neutral?

@Illusionist_126 1. They are not symbols of governmental failure. Their circumstance is evidence of governmental failure. 2. We are both performing the outrage, aren't we? 3. "The children under the bridge are already there". That's actually a very insensitive statement to make.....

Do you know what the main problem is with you folks and shite arguments like this? You are treating these children simply as symbols of governmental failure rather than as human beings with present, immediate needs. It is also evident most of you do not know how NGOs and Civil societies work. For example, you cannot simply walk up to a public school and start handing out incentives to pupils without due permission from the Ministry of Education. If you also try to antagonize the government, your efforts will be utterly frustrated. You will go on to condemn Tunde for compromising while you remain morally spotless but also entirely useless to the children in question. You want to keep them under the bridge, theoretically, so the bridge can function as an indictment of the state. Do you actually think you are more righteous by performing outrage on social media? Listen, the children under the bridge are already there. The question is not philosophical anymore. They are hungry, undereducated, exposed to violence, and statistically on their way to lives you hypocrites will later lament. If he leaves these children right now and start supporting your candidate, will this immediately destroy all the slums in Lagos State? All of you using these children's suffering as rhetorical ammunition against someone trying to address that suffering directly, I want to ask you plainly now: What exactly are you proposing instead, and when does it begin?

@ossynoya Social initiatives exist everywhere in the world. Even in developed countries, there are charities, support systems, and programmes helping people in poverty. That doesn’t mean those societies have failed, it means people are. taking responsibility where they can.

@_noexcusez @Unabombaar Why does he need to hold government accountable? Is it the job of govt alone to tackle poverty? How about the parents of the kids he’s helping? Is it only in Nigeria that we have poverty? Did poverty start in Nigeria in 2015? Also how come the Onyia guy only hypes Oti and Obi

Tunde Onakoya’s Chess in Slums initiative gets a lot of attention, but I’m not fully convinced about its long-term, measurable impact. Meanwhile, someone like Alex Onyia is building structured academic pathways through math Olympiad programs in the East, which directly develop skills that can translate into educational and career opportunities. The system built by Alex Onyia helped bring attention to issues raised around JAMB results and pushed the scrutiny of reported inconsistencies against the South East. He is part of the reason why the South East is No. 1 in education today. To me, real impact isn't about optics or social media moments. it is about creating systems that consistently move people forward, especially in education and capacity building. That’s the kind of model I find more compelling. If an initiative can’t point to sustained educational or economic outcomes, then it risks being more symbolic than substantive. What has Tunde Onakoya’s Chess in the slum initiative actually done for education in the southwest? Nothing.

@AnekeArinzeLeo @Unabombaar Tackling poverty is a collective effort, government, private sector, communities, individuals. Social initiatives exist everywhere. Even developed countries have charities supporting people in poverty. That’s not failure, it’s people stepping up where they can.
