A rare and honest voice from across the border. When a neighbour's diplomatic achievement directly protects your farmers, your kitchens, and your fuel supply and your response is to pray for its failure that is not patriotism. That is self-harm dressed as rivalry. Peace in this region has no nationality. Its benefits do not stop at the Wagah border. Thank you for saying what needed to be said. @tallstories

A historic event in our neighbourhood. If the talks in Islamabad succeed, we all stand to benefit. Not one Indian journalist there to cover it. But yes, do let’s take pot-shots at it and pray that it fails so that more people are killed, our own farmers run out of fertilisers, our kitchens become dysfunctional without LPG, and we all queue up for petrol and diesel.

Talks failed but history will remember the lengths Pakistan went to, to get it settled peacefully. We have punched miles above our weight & gave the world a glimmer of hope against all odds. We were the only avenue that gave hope to millions & millions of mothers & children who dreaded destruction. Proud of our diplomats. We know it’s a good news for a specific faction of anarchists in Pakistan but then again, until they get hold of affairs, let’s cherish what we did in the last two weeks for peace. Congratulations, Pakistan. And good luck to the world !!

We should avoid any rush to judgement about the Islamabad talks which have barely got going. Diplomacy is a process, not an event. Anyone who thinks the process will yield something quickly is mistaken. No need to see it in terms of either breakthrough or breakdown.

Women as diplomats are absolutely incredible.
A little spoken of role, in this entire episode, has been of the current Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Natalie Baker. She has done incredible work in Islamabad and is a great diplomat.
In summary, Pakistan does both war AND diplomacy really well and that’s exactly how it should be.
