Of course Wayne Bennett is a grump despite the occasion. Does nothing for the game these days. #NRLRoostersSouths #NRL

@MattP_RLZone @wwpenrith An all-seater stadium was never possible on the current site, nor with the budget. It wouldn't have mattered what fans said on that matter.

@wwpenrith Blah! The man is anti-Labor. Tried to explain last year why taking a punt on Dutton was a great idea. Fans rejected an all-seater stadium because they wanted hills. If we had an all-seater, we might've ended up with a stadium like Robina or CommBank.

We know you're talking about "that roof". But it is just one part of a problematic stadium development in Penrith that may leave fans less than impressed with the end result, writes Troy Dodds. westernweekender.com.au/2026/03/politi…

@SnoogThe Crazy right? I'm doing the Syd-Dallas flight in June. 16 hours will be my longest disconnection since my dial-up modem died in 1998.

@MattP_RLZone @RossMartin1960 It is 100% government funded. Politicians have held countless photo ops there. Issued countless releases. Politicians have put themselves front and centre and I'm questioning them. That all seems sensible to me?

@RossMartin1960 @troydodds I would have preferred an all seater 30k minimum stadium built to host events given WS Airport is almost ready. Fans got their way retaining the hills. But always a political element with Troy. Very liberal like his ex workmates at 2GB.

It's actually extraordinary the Penrith Stadium project went ahead. You shouldn't be building stadiums if your budget delivers this kind of shade / rain cover. "The stadium Labor built" will forever be full of regret. #NRL #Penrith

@troydodds They should have demolished one side of the stadium and rebuilt it properly for the $309M. Refurbish the rest and rebuild it when more $$$ is available.

@Nightman9182522 @antonposa They certainly made the initial promise. But virtually zero progress had been made once the seat changed hands and government switched. At that stage, the Coalition was already shifting to the Paceway plan. Labor stuck with the $309m, but IMO should have changed direction.

@samlutd Sure. My main argument here is that some stage, the realisation of what $309m buys should have set in and a change of tact was needed - ie, perhaps a total focus on the west, to ensure the facilities were state-of-the-art at least somewhere.

@troydodds If the stadium was state-of-the-art (and still publicly owned and funded), you’d still have people complaining about the extra cost borne by taxpayers

@CommisionerGen @troydodds @The_Shoe24 Oh bless, still desperately trying to misread basic English? I never agreed it’d be “embarrassing” if left unfinished—because it’s not being left unfinished. It’s literally a work in progress. That pic? Just the start of the eastern roof going up. Nice attempt at spin though. 🙄

@JasonMA29309156 Generally once built, the government runs it through its agency Venues NSW. Therefore, the government gets revenue from its investment that it never did before. In the long run, assume it pays for itself many times over.

@troydodds Why should governments build stadiums for profit making businesses.
