@rossmacleodputt Thanks Ross, confirming exactly what I'm working on, which is trying to remove years of bad habits and a really short backswing.... the thing that nailed the correct feeling for me is understanding that you can "load" the head of the putter with energy on the backswing .

The amount of times I see golfers blame a missed putt on “deceleration” or “decel” 🤔 Doesn’t matter if the putt is long, short or a wide miss. Makes me think the people saying it had their parents standing over them as kids drumming the world “decel” into them every time a putt missed? Or maybe comes from golf buddies saying “you decel’d there” on the course? Golfers hardly ever “decel” when putting. The irony is they usually do the opposite! I confidently make that statement after over a decade using tech that measures acceleration rates in the putting stroke. I’ve measured strokes of tour players all the way to beginner golfers. Stop worrying about deceleration when putting. It’s putting’s version of saying “lifted your head” whenever someone duffs a full swing shot. And no doubt contributes to the epidemic of over-acceleration in amateur golf. The biggest difference in how today’s top tour pros putt vs amateurs is arguably the pros are “coasting” through impact whilst the ams over-accelerate. Worry about controlling speed by taking appropriate backswings in speed / length so you can nicely “coast” through impact 👍 Which makes speed control easier. “Load” the putter going back, glide through 😎

Just an fyi The @Titleist Professional golf ball from 1995 with the testing standard of 125mph chs will NOT pass the @USGA and @RandA proposed roll back standards. It will travel too far. Let that sink in

I think the majority of golfers are going to hate the idea of a rollback for the ball they play. People are used to things getting better. They don’t like anything going backwards, especially products they pay for. Phones, cars, TVs, etc - everything we purchase is on a product cycle that promises every year it will get a little bit better than last year’s model. We are trained to expect this. Every single advertisement we see is boasting better features. The golf industry has been selling this idea for a LONG time. Also, based on observing golfers I think most of them do like hitting it farther. I am not saying this response will be rational, but those saying “oh just suck it up” are not acknowledging this truth. That’s just my initial take on this. I really don’t know if the rollback will make golf “better” or not. That’s a whole separate discussion. I just think there’s going to be a ton of backlash for non-pros playing a ball that goes a shorter distance.

@tstephenwalsh @practicalgolf You clearly enjoy being governed. Just look at your posts during Covid 😂… just waiting for politicians to advise your next move. Ruling bodies know best and are not to be questioned!

@LouStagner Why do you think people are trying to make birdies? There's nothing fundamentally wrong with trying to hit the ball relatively close to the pin, and no one makes a double on purpose??

Do you want to get better at golf? I am guessing you said yes. Everyone does. Even when Tiger was at the very top, he wanted to improve. How do you get there? The data in the table below is the average number of birdies, bogeys and doubles (or worse) per round. It is broken down by handicap index. These differences give you the blueprint to what better golf looks like. More birdies is not the key! STOP focusing on birdies! START focusing on reducing bogeys, and ESPECIALLY reducing doubles or worse! The typical 15 index averages: - 1.7 fewer birdies per round than a scratch That same 15 index averages: - 4.0 more bogeys than a scratch - 3.8 more doubles (or worse) than a scratch Turning a few doubles into bogeys and a few bogeys into pars is the key to lower scores. @hjluks No matter how active you stay after your oa diagnosis, or how much joint specific pt you do eventually this comes for you. In my case, this was 27 years after the original trauma, but I regret not one of the intervening years!

@NoLayingUp I'm 100% in favour for a rollback to pre ProV 1 balls. Not admitting my age hear but I adjusted in the past to ball diameter moving to 1.68 from 1.65 and also to the move from balls like my old fav, the Maxfli revolution to the ProV1. Gives a great lease of life to old courses.
