Jamaica is very likely in serious danger. As of right now, the NHC is forecasting that Melissa will either strike the island directly or slowly pass by to its south at CAT 4+ status. We are not talking hours. We are talking DAYS. Days of torrential rainfall. Days of Hurricane-force conditions. Unless Melissa radically deviates from the forecast track below, this is what Jamaica is facing. 2-4 DAYS of relentless rain and wind from an exceptionally slow-moving, monster Hurricane. A Hurricane that is about to tap into a near bottomless fuel tank of warm Caribbean seawater (warmth that will not only drive the ferocity of the storm’s winds, but will also feed the deep development of extremely cold and soaking convection). Prepare now, and heed all advice from local officials.
