Pace was slightly distorted by the Mercedes fighting in stint 1. whilst Antonelli looked to be managing comfortably in stint 2. However this was the closest we've been all season (+0.2s) in terms of race pace, and that came with a relatively poor showing on the soft compound. The medium stint was leaps and bounds more competitive. It would be within reason to expect the true gap to be within the 3-4 tenths range, which is where it's been all season, but the positive is the pace was still much more competitive than expected at a track that should have exposed the SF-26. In conditions Ferrari haven't excelled at in recent years... and that's really the point I'm trying to make. It worked well even when the odds were stacked against us. Whether McLarens were ahead or not is beside the point. If you asked me before the weekend, I'd have said 5-6 tenths with the power deficit on a power track, with the updates of Mercedes and McLaren. If there were any doubts about the updates, this goes a long way to silencing them. @f1insightshub
