New app alert: I've been working on Beeper for a while and today we're launching! It's a single app to chat on iMessage, WhatsApp, and 13 other networks. Been using it as my default chat client for the last 2 years and there is NO going back. Check it out beeperhq.com

Last Sunday the UK/US/CA/AU/NZ/IN/JP govts issued a statement asking tech companies to add backdoors into E2E encryption. This is a big deal: unfortunately *backdoors do not work*. Read about our alternative: combating abuse via decentralised reputation.🔒 matrix.org/blog/2020/10/1…

@zomgitstoly @nolimits @paulg @ericmigi They don't drive browsers. The bridges do use the same APIs as the web apps, but they're reverse-engineered and implemented natively, there's no actual browser involved.

@nolimits @paulg @ericmigi This looks nice. However, the wording for a moment seems like there is no puppetering with the “we dont open tabs” but looking at the bridges, they do exactly this, they drive browsers to achieve bridging with like WA or Messenger as example.

Who else thinks there are too many chat apps and frustrated your chat experience is too fragmented? @ericmigi built an app called NovaChat that solves this by aggregating them all in slick way. I'm an avid user and fan. Highly recommend: nova.chat

@SlayZeKyriarchy @ireneista Cloudflare (and currently DoH in general) is only default in the US. If/when DoH is enabled in other countries, they'll most likely use a local provider instead of Cloudflare.

We should go on-record with this: DNS over HTTPS is a good thing. Yes, CloudFlare is a large company and should not be trusted with privacy topics, but without DoH or sometime similar, your local ISP gets the data, and they're almost certainly even worse.

It’s weird that everyone is rushing off to @GitLab. Why are they going to be able to deliver where @GitHub couldn’t? Not to mention severe near-term issues.

@__weirdnik__ @lrvick @RiotChat The encryption itself has been fine for over a year now (it was externally audited late 2016), it's the UX that is in beta. Key sharing (sharing old keys to your other devices) has improved recently, but key verification isn't that nice yet (no cross-signing or other such things)

Companies like Keybase, Telegram, and Signal that use "Open Source" as a marketing tool for their walled garden chat platforms are deceptive and unethical. Consider supporting truly open, auditable, and federated alternatives like @RiotChat ( riot.im )

@signalapp and @telegram down, time to stop using centralized services for chat and switch to @RiotChat / @matrixdotorg. The best part is you can use Signal and Telegram through Matrix (once they come back up), so you don't need all your contacts to switch at once.

@octobyte @md__5 Ubuntu 17.10 does use Wayland by default as long as you don't have an Nvidia card. Even Nvidia+Nouveau disables Wayland completely.
