OKFUSKEE COUNTY, Okla. — The Okfuskee County Sheriff has announced he will be resigning at the end of the week. Logan Manshack posted a statement on the Okfuskee County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page saying his last day will be Friday, May 8 at noon. He stated his resignation comes in response to the escaped inmate from the jail in December. "Following the recent jail escape, I have made the decision to step down from my position," says Manshack in the statement. "This was not a decision I wanted to make. If it were up to me, I would continue serving this county for as long as the people placed their trust in me. However, given the circumstances surrounding this situation, it became clear that stepping aside was the path being placed in front of me." In December, Joshua Butler, a Hughes County inmate, was being housed in the Okfuskee County Jail when he removed a wall-mounted sink, breached a wall and left the jail through a door that had a broken lock. Butler escaped December 20 and was reported missing on December 25. Butler was later killed in January after running from authorities with a rifle. Sheriff Manshack also stated that while recent focus has been on the escaped inmate, there were other factors as well.
