AOC on why she’s considered controversial: When you fight really entrenched power, that power will fight you back. They cannot be seen attacking the message because that makes them look bad, so they attack the messenger. There will never be an uncontroversial messenger for challenging the structures of power keeping wages low. Secondly, I think my presence at someone who was a waitress… I’m not supposed to be there according to them and I’m not bought. There’s a real class aspect to this. There is a lot of people who think if you don’t make a lot of money, it’s reflective of your intelligence and your capacity as a human being. And of course, I’m a woman and I’m Latina. My mere existence is subversive in the place that is am. I also don’t act in a way that women are supposed to act in a society like this. You’re coming at me crazy, I’m not going to be deferential to you.

Everyone's been told the same story for years. Europe is falling behind. America is pulling away. The numbers don't lie. Except the numbers do lie. Or rather, people choose which numbers to show you. Nobel laureate Paul Krugman just published a piece dissecting exactly this. The headline comparison — US GDP vs EU GDP in nominal dollars — shows America now roughly 50% larger than Europe. Devastating, right? Wrong. That gap is mostly the euro weakening against the dollar. It measures currency moves, not economic reality. Now look at GDP at Purchasing Power Parity. PPP adjusts for what money actually buys in each place. It's the honest comparison. That's the chart bellow. Two lines. Running almost parallel. For 17 years. The gap between the US and EU economies in 2024 is barely different from what it was in 2007. Europe didn't collapse. Europeans didn't get poorer relative to Americans. The story was always more complicated than the people telling it wanted you to know. The US dominates tech. Tech had explosive productivity growth. Those productivity gains got passed on globally as cheaper products. So yes, US real GDP grew faster in base-year prices. But Europeans got cheaper iPhones too. The living standard gap didn't move. Krugman's parting observation deserves to be quoted: tech also produces tech-bro billionaires who corrupt politics. Make of that what you will.

JUST IN: A Trump judicial nominee was asked point blank: is Trump eligible to run for a third term? Their answer: “I would have to review the actual wording…” Sen. Chris Coons then asked every nominee in the room to confirm the Constitution bars a third term. Silence. Every single one of them refused to say it. Trump is appointing judges who won’t affirm the 22nd Amendment to his face. Never stop connecting the dots.

Putin is a perfect example of a dictator that becomes more and more removed from reality because he's afraid of everything. Combine this with his subordinates telling him what he wants to hear because they're afraid of him and you get a drastically increased chance of catastrophic mistakes

NEW: Russia has sharply tightened security around Putin as fears rise of an assassination attempt involving drones, sources say. He’s often in underground bunkers micromanaging the Ukraine invasion and has grown more detached from civilian affairs. ft.com/content/fe70c8…

The IDF says it is investigating after footage published by Lebanese media showed military excavators damaging solar panels in the Christian village of Debel in southern Lebanon. "The actions seen in the video do not align with the values of the IDF and the conduct expected of its soldiers," the military says in response to a query by The Times of Israel. The IDF says the incident is under investigation, and according to the findings, actions will be taken against the troops involved. According to Lebanese media, damage was also caused to water infrastructure in Debel, along with homes, roads, and olive trees.

“Tentaram repetidamente nos fazer ter vergonha das nossas ideias. Isso acaba hoje. A vergonha muda de lado. Vergonha para quem fica quieto diante das injustiças, diante quem explora os trabalhadores, para quem converte direitos em mercadoria” — Pedro Sánchez, PM da Espanha
