@SightUnseen_ Why is AI trying to replace software developers only? Why wouldn't they try to at least HELP to achieve better quality by scaling QA?! Or there's a massive delusion - that good written program always works everywhere?!

If AI is going to write 100% of code, and modern "code" is mostly just high-level abstractions for humans to understand, why wouldn't AI just generate low-level code directly? Is there a future with a highly optimized low-level language that only AI can write and understand?

It's incredible how far wireless tech as come in 25 years. The first wireless systems I worked with back in the late 90's could do maybe 1Mbps throughput with ideal conditions. Now WiFi7 gets >1Gbps to every corner of my house and can exceed 2Gbps in some cases!

@twavas @dr4goonis @ahachete Yes, this is what I was looking into but in a VM first. The daily driver now though is a MacBook because you know work!!! Tighter restrictions on being able to bring your own

Is VNC still the best way to connect to a remote Linux Desktop? Or do we have something better?

@MichaelCade1 @dr4goonis @ahachete Arch has been my choice for the last 7-8 years! I intentionally chose this one for two reasons: a) everything is manual, no helpers, even going once through the installation would teach you SO MUCH about "how it works"! And b) the best Linux wiki - because of see a)😁

@twavas @dr4goonis @ahachete I am running NixOS on my laptop but just wanting to tinker and play around to see what other options. Maybe also make some content on the other options. I like NixOS but exploring arch and others interests me. Running as VM is easier than dealing with a physical device.

@dr4goonis @MichaelCade1 @ahachete I was about to recommend the same, but to be frank - it is not connecting to the desktop. It is running a new application on a remote XServer. So, Michael - tell us more what do you want to achieve here!

@MPelletierCIO There must be a special course in college: "how to choose the Y-axis to make the data scary" 😄. I understand the point without hiding where 0 is.

@SightUnseen_ The distr is having options to select the desktop environment - did Zorin come with XFCE or GNOME? The whole 'Linux as a desktop' thing is not sticking because the enterprises don't support the idea! Why would they need something else at the airports?!? Yet still windows :(

@twavas Seems like Zorin OS wasn't too bad to get to something clean and simple and fairly familiar for a user coming from another OS. Still had to Google a few tweaks that were hardware specific, but better defaults for a new user than most it seems.

Why is the default on many modern Linux desktop distros to have multiple bars (launch bar, dash bar, side bar). Who needs all of these? One bar/launcher seem sufficient. Sure, you can tweak it, but why start with this setup? Is it some weird Mac influence?

@SightUnseen_ Lxde is copying Windows 95 KDE is like Windows 11 Gnome looks like MacOS sometimes, but also is trying to make all of the mistakes of Windows 8 (being computer and tablet ready at the same time) The usual answer to your critics - "you can customize everything". And you have to!

@twavas But what are they copying? I don't know of any other OS that has so much wasted vertical space. Sure, macOS has the top menu bar and dock, but the menu bar also acts as the menu for applications, Linux needs yet another bar for that. At least Dash to Panel exists.

Yesterday showed us that an outage doesn’t have to be ransomware despite marketing. Before any updates, be backing up your systems!

Australia: Please fill out this form that no one really reads except for some ticks and ohh by the way, we had an electronic version of this during covid but we threw that out now. Almost all other Countries: Please fill in our intuitive, automated online immigration form, or just rock up at customs with a valid ESTA or MPC App.

@rickyelqasem I've been using this for the last 3-4 years. I cannot be happier! Btw - there are a lot of clients for all mobile platforms too. Sync is working over git - self-hosted obviously 🙂

And then the world realised that maybe VMware was too cheap before and they can raise the price. No KVM based hypervisor is realistically going to just “drop in” Sorry Guy, you were just one person to quote.

Getting really f**ked off trying to install this #proxmox stuff - worked around what appears to be a widespread video issue known about for years & now it's been showing "trying to detect country" for 10+ minutes. Happy to tell it if it asks me

@homelaber @MichaelCade1 I still recall version 3.0 of VMware ESX... "It just works" was a pretty questionable statement back then. If a commercial company with a good strategic vision (not Proxmox) decides to stand behind a KVM-based hypervisor - in couple of years it becomes "just working"

@MichaelCade1 I agree with you, VMware JUST WORKS! But in the other hand, maybe this dude is just a ... Install Proxmox is pretty easy and straightforward. As ESXi has a lot of compatibility issues, Proxmox also has.
