It has been the privilege of my life to serve as the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The economy today is stronger, fairer and more resilient because of the choices we have taken as a Labour Government over the past two years. Stability restored, investment delivered and reform to our economy under way. I said when I was appointed Chancellor that I would judge my time in office if the lives ordinary working class people have been improved. I’m proud to say that they have. And to every young woman and girl let my time in office show there should be no ceilings on your ambitions, your hopes or your dreams. I wish the very best of luck to my successor, Andy and his cabinet. You have my full support, and I will continue to play my part in helping this Labour government deliver the change the country needs.

@Footballtweet What he didn’t say was that everytime we get in a positive position in a last stage game we absolutely shit our pants. It’s not a tactics / coaching / player problem. It’s an English mentality that we simply can’t get away from. Doesn’t matter who’s in charge. It’s what we do.

@AlanShanks4 By “denying Scottish democracy” can I assume you mean “honouring the result of a legally binding referendum?”

Interesting point saw this on FB Anyone confirm or deny please? Burnham cannot legally hold the position as UK Prime Minister. And if the king allows him to take this role, the king of England himself should abdicate, The rules are clear in 17 0 5. You have to have been a member of The House of Lords or an elected member in a general Election to become a UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham was neither of these and has no legal right to be Prime Minister. He can however, be the leader of The Labour Party, but he cannot be lawfully. UK Prime Minister. So how is this carrying on??!??"

@FootballInT80s It has a special place in my memory as it was the first tournament I watched & really remember. In reality England were dreadful! Drew with Ireland & Holland in the group & barely scraped past Egypt, scored 2 goals in the group stage. Lucky against Belgium & Cameroon.

When Football Was Better
When Football Was Better@FootballInT80s·
One of the biggest nights of my childhood was 4th July 1990. Not quite 13, but full of optimism, I thought every international football tournament would be like this for England. The day had arrived: the World Cup semi-final against West Germany. It was the talk of my school, among teachers and pupils alike. Everyone knows what happened next but, for a brief spell, from the moment “Lineker scored”, it felt like magic. So many what ifs, but so many memories.

The 10-day-forecast suggests the British heat wave will dip, and then return. Forecasting that far out always needs significant caveats. What I would say is - imagining the weather in London in, say, 10 years is genuinely frightening. We’re in a lot of trouble.

@TheLyricSlinger @henrywinter Whether fans attend or not will make very little difference to the revenue clubs generate overall. They’re probably the smallest part of the income in the majority of major leagues around the world.

There is a revolution going on in football and it’s being televised. Hydration breaks have become a talking point of this World Cup, it’s very own ‘water cooler’ moment. The focus is on what it means to the flow of the game. But what does it mean to the future of TV coverage? 1/2

Good Morning Britain
Should there be a legal maximum temperature for schools and workplaces? As parts of the UK face temperatures of up to 40°C and a rare red extreme heat warning, hundreds of schools have partially closed and many businesses are telling staff to stay home. With heatwaves becoming more frequent, is it time to introduce a legal limit? #heatwave #weather

🤣🇲🇽 If we're handing out World Cup hosting awards already, there might not even be a debate. Mexico has completely stolen the show so far. The atmosphere, the passion, the scenes on the streets... it's been a different level altogether. ❤️🏆
