Many people leave their homes everyday to carry out their respective duties knowing that the city roads could cause mishaps. Pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users constitute 54% of total road accidents on a national scale. To tackle this ever-growing concern, the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (@DULTBangalore), has come up with a legal framework to provide provisions and rights to the most vulnerable among the road users like pedestrians and cyclists, and restore equitable allocation of space on roads for sustainable urban mobility. Active Mobility encourages modes of commuting which rely less on fossil fuels & motor vehicles and more on the physical body of the user, thus ensuring a harmonious balance between the environment and a healthy lifestyle. The Draft of the Active Mobility Bill has been shared with other government departments. The draft bill is introduced to protect the rights of pedestrians and cyclists and ensure safe, accessible road networks in urban areas of Bengaluru.
