@MarkMyTech @emollick Yeah, it'd be perfectly undetectable unless it did anything effective. Analogous to guerilla military movements, oddly enough

@emollick Persistent edge at scale gets noticed though. The SEC and every quant fund would be reverse-engineering the signal. Markets might actually be the fastest place to detect ASI, not the best place to hide it.

The easiest way to make money fast from a superhuman artificial intelligence would be in the financial markets, almost by definition. So the first lab to develop one, if AGI is possible, would almost certainly keep it quiet for as long as they could. Beats charging for API access

@adityaag Openness to change is behavioral, not age-related. Usually, though, older people have much less *incentive* to change, so they don't. Something like this, though, it's off to the races.

@baybal2 @TrentTelenko "Spending armour piecemeal" was also historic force doctrine, presumably unintentional. Ger AFVs, outnumbered, outgunned, and often qualitatively inferior, routinely tore apart repeated disorganized Sov attacks. (Sov AFV numbers won in the long run.)

@TrentTelenko I think Russians can't understand that spending armour piecemeal was an even bigger waste. Ukrainians used infantry assaults with small groups in 2022 because they had no vehicles to spare, while Russians have adopted that when they still had tons of them.

We see this lack of Russian tanks and AFV's on the Ukrainian battlefield and in the empty Russian depots, but still the Western Media goes "Russia Strong" for the eyeballs and clicks.🙄
Lost Weapons@LostWeapons

Russian telegram paging basically saying what all the vehicle depot trackers are saying. Russian armored assaults no longer sustainable. No more tank company assaults and battalions now only have a few armored vehicles. While commanders act like it’s still 2022

@seconds_0 @cruelsardaukar I mean this with love--they don't want to do this for you. Getting to why may or may not be helpful. But as a qual researcher w/psych background...it's about something else. Hesitation here is a social defense mechanism.

@cruelsardaukar If the parents went with us, we could get financing without being contingent on my house selling. They wanted every possible question answered and we had incredible leverage (no offers in 180 days). Instead of jumping in once 60% of questiosnwere answered, they held out.

@mert @paulg I might also add that one candidate has said repeatedly that he intends to suspend or remove many checks and balances if elected. Is he lying? Is he telling the truth? Both should disqualify, it's a low friggin bar he nonetheless can't clear

the flaw in this reasoning is thinking that Kamala's character is known Not liking Trump's character is fair, but comparing it to an unknown entity (that is heavily media fabricated) is just as risky no? Similarly, if your main conclusion is asymmetrical risk — then one could say that Trump has been president before and that the USA has checks and balances on abuse of power; meaning the uncertainty is bounded, whereas the uncertainty from a Kamala presidency is greater, by basic empiricsm so tl;dr, not liking Trump and not voting for him for that reason is fair — but I don't see how it's more risky than the alternative

one of my favorite things about having a kid is noticing all the little milestones. today i noticed him reaching for an object that was just out of reach, and he seemed to know to deliberately rotate his hand to nudge it closer to him. its like he downloads a new patch every nap

Last but not least, there are a number of other valid ways to do prioritization and there are no “rules” here. So feel free to mix and match these and other ideas to create your own, context-appropriate approach to prioritization. Best of luck!

The most underrated element of content creation is… Format. Not only is a unique format a MASSIVE competitive advantage, but choosing an unexpected format makes it much easier to come up with content ideas. This image from @AprilynneAlter is a great example of how format informs content.

startup sales journey — do NOT skip steps. hint: especially step 2 Step 1: Founder-led sales (~ $1MM) Step 2: Founder-managed sales ($1 -$3MM) Step 3: VP of Sales (~ $3MM+) Step 4: CRO (~ $10-20MM +) if you are hitting targets at unbelievable speed, than I think very fair to bring forward key hires a bit (assuming churn is controlled)

Serious question, but it sounds like a joke: How do you tell if an estate planning lawyer is any good? Seems like most of the time you’re dead before their work product really gets tested. I’m not looking for one. I’ve just always wondered about this.
