One of the big issues with that set is that you kinda need to have a counter schemed up if the handoff is jammed, because once the defense sees what formation you're in prior to the inbound, they know that a handoff is coming (so you need to either delay getting into formation or scheme up something to flow into if the defense kills it). Since you automatically end up with players filling the corners, mixing in wide pindowns (and curl/twirl action or Chicago) would make sense, but I'm spitballing. Things just tend to get ugly when the DHO is jammed.

UNC went to EOG "On the Run" but VCU jammed up the handoff to Trimble, and, well...

VCU ranked in the 5th percentile defending post-ups this season. No surprise that UNC opens the game with a Veesaar post set.

HD ran a SLOB version of the backscreen lob play that we've seen run for guys like Henri Veesaar and Jalen Washington in the past -- the idea is to clear out the backside so there's no help on the lob -- but Duke killed the action by switching + Sarr stayed in front to blow up the pass.

Duke is being super physical with denying post entries to Veesaar. UNC has run a few plays for him thus far that have gone nowhere.

The offensive game plan will be a big thing to watch tonight. Looking back to UNC’s win over Duke a few weeks ago, we saw Caleb Wilson keep the offense afloat in the first half with his tough shot-making from the post because of how Duke shut down Carolina’s pick-and-roll game (stayed home to deter kickouts, played the roller to remove lobs, kept the ball in front to force mid-range shots). In the second half, Hubert Davis spammed post-ups, targeted bigs with foul trouble, and sought to pull Cam Boozer into as many actions as possible (e.g., he was targeted on over half the team’s scoring possessions in the second half). x.com/twmarks_/statu… With Wilson out of the equation, what does the offense look like tonight? We’ve seen some recent tweaks to the offense over the last few weeks, even prior to Wilson’s absence — adding empty-corner shallow cuts to their Wedge PNR package, throwing in more double ball screen sets, giving Luka Bogavac PNR/DHO looks that have him driving into double gaps to make him more comfortable as a ball-handler (Chop, Spain, Iverson Step/Short), running more off-ball screening actions (Strong, Flip Empty Flare, Chin Shuffle Leak, etc.) to feed Bogavac and Jonathan Powell when they’re hot, playing through Henri Veesaar more in the post, etc. — that I’m sure we’ll see tonight, but this is a very good defensive team and Jon Scheyer looks to take away what you’re trying to accomplish on offense. Hubert Davis will need to nail the X’s and O’s tonight if the Heels are going to pull out the W.
