Then there are cases where someone works for 45+ years & dies. Per SS reg, those funds cant be willed to anyone else. Those excess funds should go into the pool to help those people who worked all their lives but at lower paying jobs. As you point out. There needs to be better actuarial accounting for all those payments.

@PatriotLadyLucy @sarahtexe Believe it or not, 90% of people will receive more in Social Security than what they contributed - with low income people receiving more than double what they put in. High income people are the ones that get screwed, paying in more than they'll ever receive.

We were fortunate to have other investments, BUT we'd still like the legitimate return on our 14% paid in for 45 years. You're making an excuse for bad management of the SS Trust & pilfering of those funds for General use. If an employer had squandered those funds in their "pension" accounts, they would be prosecuted. It's about D.C. being accountable for what they took.

@sarahtexe Social Security was never intended to be your sole source of retirement income. It was designed as a financial safety net to prevent poverty in old age. It was meant to supplement your own savings and possibly a company pension plan which were far more prevalent at the time.
