What does "hardware-signed data" actually mean, and why does it matter for climate markets? Standard IoT deployments: sensor reads a value, sends data to a server, gets stored in a database. The server is the trust anchor. If it gets compromised or altered, the data loses integrity. Mālama's deployment: the sensor itself signs every measurement using an ATECC608B secure enclave — an ECDSA/SHA-256 cryptographic chip embedded in the device. The data never leaves the hardware without a cryptographic signature, anchored as a CIP-68 NFT on Cardano. The trust anchor is the physics, not the software. Under CSRD and SEC climate disclosure rules, data provenance will be auditable.
