@chris_neto We have a 8640x2160 display in our auditorium (we use it 32:9 or 8K wide x 4k high) - so normalised / simple transport and hardware that supports 8K would be good. At moment it is possible, but a faff with ‘surround’ or ‘unison’ setups GPU. #AVinTheAM

Q2 Who do you think is the driving force (the ask) for 8k & 16k content? What innovations are on the horizon (and necessary) for 8K/16k displays to become the standard, and how will they impact the commercial market? #AVintheAm #avtweeps

@chris_neto Q5/1 Although ICVFX focused, the emergence of RGBCA, adding Cyan and Amber and RGBW / RGBWW adding dedicated white pixels is a trend with broader implications for adjacent workflows. Higher bandwidth requirements for pixel processing and transport etc. #AVinTheAM

Q5 What is your biggest question/trend/announcement that you saw come from #NABshow 2024 this past week? In your opinion has NAB evolved into an "AV" show (yes/no/maybe)? If so where are the crossover points? #AVinTheAM #AVtweeps

@westfieldstrat is it just me that finds the fake soap-bubble snow on the ‘street’ extremely annoying? You can’t avoid it when walking to the station from the park unless walking a long way around… yes…. That sounds grumpy. Sorry!

@chris_neto Q5 SM can be a good way for employer or potential employee to start an informal conversation before a formal app. In both directions posting interesting, engaging stuff helps keep any analysis from either side useful. Aids alignment of workplace culture to people #AVinTheAM

@chris_neto Q1/1 I see this from a different perspective - higher ed is focused on knowledge exchange, so socials are a way of understanding who is doing what in our peer institutions and adjacent sectors. If I see something unusual or innovative, I am more likely to explore. #AVinTheAM

Q1 How has Social Media transformed traditional market research methods? Even for your own research do you start with the company pages or social 1st (ie Linkedin, Youtube, etc)? why? why not? #AVinTheAm

@chris_neto Q4/1 been missing from #AVinTheAM for while, focused on delivering a new campus and developing a Virtual Production Research Volume - the latter discipline is crying out for highly skilled people across the many aspects that intersect with AV/integration…

Walking though Stratford Westfield to our new campus site - why would you name your mobile food business ‘Shicken’ ? Is it supposed to make you Shick? Maybe I just don’t get it…

@chris_neto A focus on UX is a focus on all of the above. If you develop insightful engineering/solutions for the people who will ultimately exercise your spaces, systems and services, the rest follows. Sounds easy! Doing it well and with simplicity as a guiding principle is not! #AVintheAM

Q4 I get asked this a lot: What is the can't miss area to focus on in AV? Audio, Video, Lighting & Control comes to mind (IT is woven into each). As an AV professional, what would you advise people to pursue? Or is it wise not to choose a niche in 2023? #AVinTheAM

@chris_neto @frankpadikkala Q6The most damaging aspect of this for me is that manufacturers, distributors and SI’s hold on to preconceived notions about previous projects and/or affiliations with certain products/types. Engineering for the best outcome is standards based but always case-by-case #AVintheAm

@chris_neto Q4/1 for our new build campus OFE is not about functionality, but part of the project sustainability strategy. 1/3rd of the room equipment is OFE moving with us, matched with identical new procurement. It takes forward planning to keep standards & maximise lifecycle #AVintheAM

Q4 Owner Furnished Equipment (OFE), many times, serves as a "MacGuffin" of a project. What is your "most interesting" OFE request to be integrated into a design? Ever integrate "vintage" gear into a modern design? Have any problem-solving widgets for these instances? #AVInTheAM

@chris_neto Q3 / 1 No. I don’t believe tech in and of itself has changed much. Generic adoption for a larger number of core tasks, maybe. The issue is that during lockdown there is enforced parity, which is not reflective of baseline multimodal work outside of these conditions. #AVintheAM

Q3 Do you believe that collaboration tech, developed & used during the pandemic, to be far superior to what existed before? If so why aren't the corporations convinced? Can technology, which doesn't necessarily have to be AV, help solve the RTO battles? #AVInTheAM

@chris_neto Q4 / 1 for HEIs a challenge is the split between multimodal working / teaching / learning on time management / location management; balancing on-campus and on-line commitments when each have differing cultures can create friction or a mismatch of expectations. #AVintheAM

Q4 Have you been affected by RTO mandates? Did WFH change how you worked? When u go into the office now do u reserve a desk or become a "Conf. Room Squatter"? Can a bad experience finding a proper workspace in RTO situation lead to more resistance in full-time return? #AVInTheAM

@chris_neto Late to the #AVintheAM party… but #ISE2023 was intersting for me this year as I had an absolute singular focus on Virtual Production. The relevant booths were all shapes and sizes, but the availability of genuine subject matter expertise was the key differential.

Q3 The more interesting & talked about booths at #ISE2023 moved away from the traditional "Retail Shop" tech display. As attendees does equip. on display draw you in or are u looking for the gear in use, room Vignettes, or a more experiential booth. Is this the trend? #AVintheAm

@chris_neto @HETMA_org Things I agree with and things I don’t in this thread (as any good debate). For me the Q is not of design, which always requires strong partnerships, but of enterprise speed/scale, which determines in-house vs. In-house+ (our design, delivered by an integrator) #AVinTheAM

@_AVAP @chris_neto @HETMA_org Conversely - blindly accepting solution design from a 3rd party with less subject matter intelligence (used deliberately in place of ‘expertise’) about your space typologies and user journeys is madness……

@chris_neto @HETMA_org This direct relationship can be both good and bad. I've seen some institutions use products because they came from a direct relationship, even if there are better products on the market to fill that need. These rel. can create blinders for looking at alternatives #AVintheAM

To all AV contractors and consultants. Sometimes your "end user" is the smartest person (or team) in the room. Accept that and decide how you will approach those scenarios. 2 choices: look like a jerk or take the oppty to learn. #AVTweeps #InHouseIntegrator #ProAV #Audiovisual
