@DrEvelynVazquez Sounds like you'll be expected to do more work, for the manuscript. I'd say it's ok as long as you want to contribute, and maybe the student may include a small paragraph in the acknowledgements to explain the situation.

Would you consider the roles of the dissertation committee and co-author to be the same?
One student is asking me to help them with their doctoral dissertation, but because they cannot include me in their committee, they are offering me to be a co-author of a manuscript instead
