The Florida Senate has passed Senate Bill 1296 (the most significant anti-union bill this session) in a 20-14 vote, w/ five Republicans and Pizzo (an independent) joining Dems in opposition. The Florida House is expected to vote on the similar House version (HB 995) next week.

I commend @GovRonDeSantis and the Florida leaders working to ensure unions truly have the support of the educators they represent. This commonsense reform, SB 1296, reins in fringe political activism from teacher unions and refocuses them on accountability to teachers.

Rusty Brown, a lobbyist for the Freedom Foundation — a primary backer of anti-union legislation (SB 1296) rapidly advancing thru the FL Legislature — openly admits his group’s goal is to reduce or eliminate public sector unions, not just boost “accountability”

MUST WATCH: someone who doesn’t live in FL & isn’t a public employee claims he knows your needs better than YOU. SB 1296 makes life harder for workers in FL- plain & simple. FL lawmakers- don’t turn your backs on the workers who keep FL safe & prosperous! cbsnews.com/miami/news/gov…

Florida union members plan to rally this Monday to protest Wisconsin-style anti-union legislation that would effectively make it harder for most public employees to form or retain their existing unions. The Senate bill's final committee stop is Monday at 12pm.

Supporters have framed the legislation as a crackdown on teachers' unions, conveniently ignoring or downplaying the impact it would have on unions representing blue-collar workers, such as bus drivers and utility workers, who have traveled up to Tally to testify against it.
