The Florida Senate has passed Senate Bill 1296 (the most significant anti-union bill this session) in a 20-14 vote, w/ five Republicans and Pizzo (an independent) joining Dems in opposition. The Florida House is expected to vote on the similar House version (HB 995) next week.

@StasiKamoutsas Lies & misinformation. This bill was penned by Freedom Works: their lobbyist testified that the intent is to eliminate and weaken public sector unions. It adds bureaucracy, denies FL workers’ right to collectively bargain & has carveouts for police, fire, & corrections unions.🤔

School unions in Florida aren’t acting in the best interests of teachers, students, or taxpaying citizens — only the political activists at the top. Despite their efforts, Florida has become a model for education and parents’ rights. Now, Florida lawmakers have the opportunity to preserve and build on these achievements by passing legislation to hold school unions accountable. I appreciate the Trump Administration’s support for this transformative bill and look forward to @GovRonDeSantis signing it into law.

FYI, when public employees see their union decertified, they also lose their union contracts and any protections they were exclusively guaranteed under them. After blue-collar workers at USF saw their union decertified, the school privatized their jobs cltampa.com/news/we-were-f…

The measure was pushed by the Freedom Foundation, an extremist think tank funded by billionaires. In fact, in an interview with CBS Miami in 2023, the southern director for the Freedom Foundation, Rusty Brown, took credit for writing the bill.
