As an Indian, I am ashamed to read that the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions has declined accreditation to India's National Human Rights Commission for a second year in a row: thehindu.com/news/national/… They concluded that India's NHRC has failed to satisfy the international body that the NHRC is "able to operate independent of government interference". Sadly, that is indeed true, not just of NHRC but most of our constitutionally autonomous institutions, whose autonomy has been hollowed out by the Modi government. Only a new Indian government can restore our credibility and pride on the world stage.
