@wildcat_walker @nolanuky27 In regards to your belief that Pope isn’t the right man for the job I totally understand why you feel that way. I hope you are wrong and next year is significantly better. But unfortunately you may be right. Regardless of what we think however, he will get another year.

Here’s where I currently stand on the entire Pope situation at this point (we will talk endlessly about it on Breaking Blue for our season wrap up). Am I confident in Pope? No. I was all in coming into the year on Mark Pope as being our guy. After this year, I have serious worries about Pope not only on the court, but the overall management of the program. At the end of the day, Pope gets year 3. Should he? Based on performance, no. But based on the administration currently? Probably. When you consider Barnhart isn’t leaving until July, nobody is taking a job when they don’t know who the AD will be. So at the end of the day, I’m a Kentucky fan first and a fan of the coach second (maybe even third). If the coach succeeds, Kentucky succeeds. That’s all that matters to me. I am pulling for Mark Pope to get this right. Worst case scenario and he doesn’t, then Kentucky will move on this time next year and hire another coach.

@ukclassof93 @nolanuky27 It’s a loaded question. He should get another year because every coach deserves 3 years unless they’re a drunk. But nothing Pope has done gives me any confidence he’s gonna change and the longer we wait to make a change the harder it’s gonna be to get an elite coach

@HSTopRecruiting Why do you think they don’t care? Because they haven’t fired pope? It’s his first bad season. He had a ton of injuries and by all accounts he had a pretty successful first season. I’m sure just like the rest of bbn, they want pope to kill it next season.

I don’t see how the administration can hear everyone talk about how bad of a spot the program is in and they simply don’t care. They know Rupp will be full, they know the season ticket holders will renew in hopes of a great team. They have to only care about profit at this point.

@wildcat_walker @nolanuky27 Yes but Sometimes injuries are legit excuses, Like Nerlens. Also, you are right that there were failures in roster building. But the question I asked is, should he be fired after one bad season?

@CameronWaddle @mostlysports @clubtrillion You say he’s doing well at Arkansas, but I’d contend he’s only doing slightly better than pope to this point. And given the significant injuries Popes teams have had, he has a pretty good reason for not being more successful thus far.

Revisionist history has completely shifted the views of many people when it comes to the ending of the John Calipari era in Lexington. Here is a clip from @mostlysports a couple years back after we fell to Oakland. It’s a rant from @clubtrillion, a former Ohio State Buckeye basketball player, and a guy who has no affiliation with Kentucky or Calipari. These are his thoughts and it’s truly what the state of the program was at the time. Two total postseason wins since 2020 with him, one in SEC tournament and one in NCAA tournament. I will forever love John Calipari, and he’ll likely forever be my favorite coach, but it was over at Kentucky. Whether you want to blame it on him, administration, others, doesn’t matter. He’s doing well at Arkansas, but his time at Kentucky was done. I just don’t get how people have forgotten what the end of his time here was like. Yes, he gave us one of the best runs in College Basketball history in his prime at Kentucky, but the ending was far below the standard in Lexington.

@DylanBallard_UK Barnhart has mentored some of the best ADs in the country. Why would we step out of that sphere if some of the largest programs (Florida, Bama, Oregon) in the country have ADs that served under Mitch?

Dewayne Peevy’s name comes off the board as a potential candidate for the Kentucky AD. Personally, it seems more and more evident that Kentucky needs to completely step out of their personal sphere on this hire.
