Wrong Brad. The Chinese are responding directly to US escalation on export controls with the 50 percent Rule rolled out last week. It was clear they would respond to this, which was a clear violation of the agreement in Madrid not to take new measures. This was a deliberate move by those favoring decoupling at Commerce to up the ante, and neither the White House or Commerce were fully informed, let along about the potential, actually, certainty that Beijing would respond. Let's get the causation straight here, there is enough bad analysis of this situation out there.

1/ A repatriated Korean worker from the Hyundai-LG battery factory secretly wrote a detention diary about their 7-day experience in ICE custody in Georgia. The worker says ICE officers mocked them with words like as "North Korea" and "Rocket Man" despite holding a business visa.

Here's a story about a Form 4 St. Paul's student that won 8 awards for creating an AI medical app, including a Hong Kong ICT Award (from the Digital Policy office). Turns out the app was written by a US-based software company commissioned by her mother. scmp.com/news/hong-kong…

Microsoft internal email revealed H1-B overall win rate as 15% for their cap cases, compared to last year’s 25%. The company’s large sample size usually makes it a good estimate for overall rate (last year’s overall is 26.4%). Wow, this lottery is almost impossible.
