Today is #999Day and we’re celebrating and thanking the 2 million people working in the NHS and emergency services. Our officers and staff are proud to work alongside other emergency services partners to help keep the public safe and well.

Knives and weapons used in phone snatchings are very rare. The actions of the members of the public were heroic and enabled us to collect vital evidence at the scene to assist with this investigation. Should you be a victim of, or witness a phone snatching, call 999 immediately

Our Cycle team have been tackling anti-social behaviour, cycling offences & disrupting phone snatchers. As part of our education day, 53 names of cyclists were taken in under 2 hours & all issued with a warning. Next time, we’ll issue a fixed penalty notice #ASBAwarenessweek

Our officers spotted 2 suspected phone snatchers, dressed as delivery riders near Cannon Street last night. Officers stopped them & after a struggle, they were both detained. They were found in possession of 6 stolen phones & arrested. 5 out of 6 phones returned to the victims

So we faced the odd comment tonight, but on the whole, as usual the public were pleased to see us and thanked us for the crime prevention advice. The pubs and bars were also happy to see we were out in the NTE to support them too #licensing #nte #publicConfidence

We’ve successfully returned more than 100 phones over the past month to victims of phone theft. Friday evenings are a peak time for phone theft. Please be extra vigilant of your surroundings when using your phone. If you have been a victim of theft, please report it to police.
